210 build PIC INTENSE

I think the clams died and the hermits were just cleaning up the mess.............

I would stay away from clams for at least 3 months until you get everything worked out with your system

The clam is doing great....they were just eating the stuff on the sides.....and my lights are:
3-250watt MH 10k, 4-96watt PC, 3 luner lights.....its the aqualight HQI fixture 72"....thank you

Oh well then lucky you

And that is plenty of light.........np

Just watch the params and dose iodine and phyto feed for the clam................

I really like the open look of the tank maybe add some flat pieces over the open gaps to provide dimly lit areas for the fish later on when you reintroduce...............

All my fish have claimed an overhang as the sleeping hole....just an idea for you

Oh, It looked like they were declining or dying because I've never seen clams look like that. And I've never seen nor heard of snails on them. I didn't know they snails did that, and that it would be okay with the clam.

I learn something new everyday here.

I had a black molly fish in my tank from the begining and the thing just had about fifty babies in my QT. they are pretty cool!!!

First of all bro, I think you are in a serious rush.... slow down a bit....

These are living animals that should be treated with respect... not like a picture for pretty colors...

You are doing OK with equipment, but you need to let you tank equalize before you put more animals in...

Throw in a good cleanup crew, some hardy chromis if you must (which I dont advocate for cycling purposes) ...

Stay away from the supplements... just do a few good water changes...

Stay away from clams, corals, linkia's... until a few mnts have gone by...

Lastly, get rid of the bio-balls now, the way you are plumbed, in a few weeks you will start clogging up & building up your trates...

(BTW Why was your water green in the beginning?)

+1 +1

That was the first thing I thought when reading through this thread. You will get much better results with a little patience.

Also, if I am not mistaken those clams like to be on a hard surface. Something their foot can attach to.

I still think that clam is dead/dying. When hermits start crawling on mine the clam will actually lift up on its foot and jerk somewhat violently sending the hermit "flying" off.

I have 40 small blue leg hermits.....15 bumble bee snails, 15 astraea snails....and one sand sifting star......
One thing that i always wonder about....why do you need to take things slow if you have a setup like mine and all the parameters look good and stable. what changes over time....not being a smart a@@. Because like a have said before....i normally dont rush things by any means.

What do u mean a setup like yours?... I dont really see anything out of the ordinary....

But not to be combative... all you have to do is look at your results....

I'm just advising you from my experience and what was taught to me...

... and if you dont normally rush, dont start now... living things deserve that much...

well its day number three with the DT fallow.....i really like how how things are looking....everthing seems to be doing a lot better now that that fish vet ich med. is gone. My colt coral is one bad motha... it has grown from a couple of inches to basketball size in three months...my last one i gave so many frags from a colt. I would grab my wifes hair clippers and cut off tons of pieces and put them in a pile of rubble... a week later they would be attached and growing. They are a very strong coral...

Oh yeah....mrkalel....your tank looks amazing....LOL...in four more years you may have something to look at....keep it up reef pro!!

See this is what happens when u give advise to someone who brags about his COLT doing well...lmao...

BTW... why did u ask for advise, if all u wanted to do was show off (whatever u thought u were showing off...)??

& my last piece of advise...

I wouldn't get into a p***ing match with someone, when u clearly don't realy know what u are doing...

anyway...moving on...

Like i said before what is it that happens to a new tank as it ages....because from what i know after the tank goes through its first cycle and stablizes...and parameters and good and maintaining.....a lot of corals still are not able to thrive. I dont understand why that is....i know it just is. but what changes over time?

here is my two cents on why i had troubles with this tank....

I should have never had three surgeonfish in one tank....i know that was a bad idea but i really want all those fish in one tank and like to try things that not many people can do....thats what gets the hobby further. but it was a mistake not QT them first because i do beleive that that was the only reason i had anything die.... they were stressed and got ich.... and i tried some "reefsafe" ich meds out of pure stupidity....which i know killed the clams and corals....and in turn the fish too since i left them alone hoping that the meds would work like they said....
but i would be willing to bet if i did everything over again and just QTed all the fish and put them in the same order that I did....everything would be doing good. And you may get to see.... because i may even try it again in eight weeks....
