225 Tank build thread

I have to go to Dougs tommorow and Ill be meeting Nancy up in Parker for lunch. I should be back by mid afternoon though. Dan, just beep me tommorow.

Sorry I got there so late. Your Parents house is scarey huge. lol I think I would be scared to be in that living room alone. THat tank room is going to be very nice. Good luck with the cat walk.

LOL! No prob Dan, thanks for your help tonight... I'll try to get the cat walk built soon and I'll post more pics at that time.

That would be awesome. I really liked that nozzle bulkhead thingy. Very cool. I can't believe that someone has not been selling those earlier. I might want to get some. How much were they again? What size did you say you are doing for returns?

They are pretty cool Murph. But the only you can make it look good is if you have an inwall setup. They kinda look like jet tub nozzles. Basically its a bulkhead with an eyeball nozzle.

Alright, I guess it's time to give you what you asked for. :) Here's some pics.

Here's the eyelet (3/4")...

Here's the connection half, should be 1.5"

Here's the room.
The start of the catwalk around the tank, this one is 36" high, the next step will be 18" and there will be a matching 18" for the sump.

Looks great Eric. I want to put maybe four those in my tank. Can you PM me the contact info please. This setup is so nice. Did you have to remove the molding at the bottom?

That fan is ULTRA QUIET. Hey can you post the price of those directional bulkheads? Can't wait to see that all finished and running.

I'll PM you tomorrow, I have his email at work...

I ended up cutting off 1" on the width on the bottom to make up for the trim and now it fit's super snug!

I'll be working on my duct work tomorrow with Paul, and if we get it done tomorrow, I hope to finish up the catwalk the following day. I've got all the acrylic for the sump cut (48x20x24) so it will too be getting assembled as soon as I get a moment. I still need to order the black acrylic to cover the walls of the tank as well as drill the thing into swiss cheese! I've got 8 CL returns (eyelet bulkheads) 2 CL drains, 2 open loop drains from the overflow box, and I've still got to figure out where I'm going to put the returns for that! Loads of plumbing, and then I can water test it!!!

Okay, I'm depressed. :(

Hey in all your internet searching ( I know you do lots of it :P), Have you seen a fitting or bulkhead that has a 360 outflow? I was wanting something other then locline. I was thinking about maybe making something like that. Like slicking many differnet angled cuts in a test cap and putting that on top of my returns coming through the bottom of the tank for my closed loop. What do you think?

I think they were around 15 each... Not too bad considering just a 1.5" bulkhead is 9... and with locline and connector will cost you another 4 and it's not nearly as pretty. :D

I haven't see anything I can recall... I'll do some thinking and let you know... There are 360" devices out there but nothing continuous like you're referring to.

1. What is the catwalk going to be covered in?
2. Also I see one receptacle above the tank, I assume there are more?
3. How many circuits are dedicated to the tank & equipment?
4. Are you going to plumb a line into the house sewer for draining water at water change time? If so where is is located and how are you tying that in?

Dan, Not yet, I'm hoping to start drilling it this weekend...

Christo, 1. I was planning on just waffer board unless you've got an opinion... 2. and 3. One above the tank and 2 doubles one on either side of the tank with 3000w capability through 2 circuits dedicated to the room. 4. The house drain is on the opposite side of the basement (you know how far away this is) but there is a drain pump on this side of the house with a sink that we'll have to dump into. :( I know it won't be quite as fast as your 1 gallon a second water change, but as long as it's open valve and close valve it should work pretty smooth. Plus seeing where the water actually goes will keep us from dumping 60 gallons of NSW down the drain. :D

ahhha septic huh? well I would do an external drain to the outside. I wouldn't put saltwater down the septic, I would drain onto the ground outside, maybe have the pump discharge out there.
Just a thought, I don't know if it would be too much work, it's just that septics are touchy (and Expen$$ive) so i don't know if i'd want to plumb it into the sewer.

As far as wafer board what is that? the stuff they put under siding on a house? or the subfloor? I'd think it would work, as long as its painted with a good waterproof type.
