230 Ohio reef tank

I could only wish to have .08 in phosphates :) at .96 last test with a Hanna meter I am thinking the meter measures other things in the water or something.

Nice

Nice

Well I finally did it. I switched to MAC. (iPhone 5). (Thanks Wayne you talked me into it :)). I have to admit, i phone the camera takes much better pictures than my Droid did and captures the colors a little better. Still doesn't quite show the blues in my corals like I see them in person but the phone is great. Just wanted to play with the camera and share some of the latest

Really nice and clean tank ...

I would have to agree with you. Your tank is incredible and the colors were amazing when I saw it. Have you tried a different test to see if your meter is reading right?

I would check the vials being used because if they are cloudy or any hand prints on them it cant make that number look real ugly. For the longest my phosphates on my checker were reading .51 constantly even when I raised my dosage of the NoPox. I soaked the vials in white vinegar for a day and retested and my results were .21. Just an observation on my part and it looks like I will order new vials for safety.

Thanks, that's a great idea, never thought of washing those vials in vinegar. Btw, I will be down in Tampa in early Aug and would love to come see your build if your around.

The GFO seemed to do the trick. Phosphates are back down to 0. Will be interesting to see if I can maintain the sane feeding schedule I had when I was running the bio pellet reactor and not increase my phosphates with just GFO.

Had a really bad reefkeeping day yesterday. My blood pressure must of went through the roof. The Island on the right collapsed as i was tinkering with a frag and had spent 8 hours reaquascaping and cleaning up broken frags and trying to find the best placement for growth of my smaller SPS. The most frustrating moment was when the larger green Bali that was growing nicely before the collapse fell to the bottom. Had a few small frags broke off. Most of the rocks are secured with fiberglass rods on the right but I didn't do as we'll on the right structure. Guess I should keep my hands out if the tank from this point on. Anyways, here's my new island on the right. Sitting back now and can finally feel my blood pressure coming down.

Does anyone remember that article in FAMA where Delbeek and Sprung rewrote Tom Petty's "Free Falling" to something along the lines of "Got a reef tank. Look's pretty good..." Stories like yours always make me remember the line about adjusting that new frag just a little to the left and then the chorus, "And now my reeeeeef's, reef's falling," (reef's falling, now my reef's falling) etc.

Not to make fun of your predicament, but it happens so often to just about everyone so that stupid song always comes to my mind as a sort of built-in comic relief.

Hope it helps,

Dave.M

Thanks Dave,

I love it. Lol. I actually think at some point in those 8 hours that song had crossed my mind as I put my rocks back in place and fell repeatedly until i finally found there resting place. You definitely have keep a sense of humor about those moments. Good to know that there's more of us out there who have been through it. :)

I hate it when I break coral. I usually break a branch off when im cleaning and not paying attention to where my elbow is. At least you can always make a frag!

Had to share. Was experimenting with my waterproof Iphone case today. Takes some great underwater pictures. Still trying to figure this photography thing out.

Awesome thread, awesome build...just awesome. Great idea about waterproof iPhone for underwater shots! I have an old 3GS that would work perfectly.
