230 Ohio reef tank

This is going to be the start of a new relationship. Had to break down the old tank about a year ago and had to move from Florida (Old tank posts were Tims 230) to Ohio. Since then we have moved into a new house and started building a new mancave and decided to build this one into the wall. There were lots of lessons learned after the last set up and want a much cleaner look for the maintenance area. Still in much of the acquisition and planning stages and will look forward to some of the reef central members suggestions and feedback. Here's what I have so far and much more work to do. Still trying to decide on my main pump replacement. The main pump will pull from the sump to a 1" sea swirl located on the back to center of the tank. Anyways look forward to some thoughts and suggestions.

Moved to Dayton/Beavercreek Ohio. The tank is 60 inches X 30 X 30. 1" acrylic. Cant wait to get this up and running again. Plan on going to all SPS.

View from the bar. Basement was a concrete slab (No bar/ceiling/flooring or walls)when I started construction. Did all the work myself and even built the bar and the stonework. This is why it has taken a year before I started the aquarium hobbie back up. Going to be a fun ride when I get it going. Will be excited to have the local Reef club up for a few brews when its done.

Anyone have any main pump recommendations? I was thinking about the Reeflo Dart Gold but not sure if its to much of an overload. Someone also had recommended the Blo hole 1450 but Im not sure if it will be enough? Any thoughts on those two?

If you use the dart gold with the snapper impeller you should be good. Just chuck the output side down to control the flow. or unless you plan on doing a manifold off the output.

Cool project. I am undertaking a similar tank (250 gallon), and am working through the details currently. I have my tank filled, but waiting for my new protein skimmer and DIY sump to cycle the tank. I live on the north side of Dayton (Clayton), and have also recently moved to the area.

Sounds like a fun project. Would like to see some pics.

Thanks newbie, I think I'm leaning more and more towards the Dart/snapper gold now. Funny thing is that I had a small pool pump on this tank for almost 3 years when I was in Tampa and had no idea what the gph was. It Worked great, but just a little worried about the seal going out soon, so I figured I might as well get something new this time since I'm starting all over.

I have 2 of them and i cant wait to get them running. If you want to save a few extra dollars you can get the regular dart/snapper. The only difference is that the gold had a 5 year warranty compared to the 3 year warranty for the regular.

Looks great! Nice transformation. Did you have a post on one of the Dayton forums? This story sounds familiar but I couldn't find a thread.

No, sorry. Just started building the basement back in May of this year. The aquarium is the final stage and just started arranging the set up over the last few weeks.

I'm happy to hear there are some local reefers here. You all will have to let me know where a good place to find some SPS. Was thinking about taking a trip/vacation to Thailand and bringing a large stash back, but not sure how hard it would be getting that stuff through U.S. and Thai customs.

Nice basement aka "man cave", aka "reefers paradise". Nice area where you moved too.

Forgot to add the before photo's. This was back in May of this year. Tank is on the floor. (Left side of the photo)

Also, wanted to show the photo of my last shot of the tank before I had to break it down in Tampa. It was really a bummer to have to break it down. However I worked out a good deal with Coral Corral in Tampa, ended up getting a nice GHL 4 pump doser for this set up.
