1 leak. I'd think I did something wrong if I only had 1 leak
John, unfortunately had a few more little ones after the post. However after a little teflon were good to go.

Urghhh! Things are not going as well as planned. After I filled the tank, a small portion of the tank was sitting on the wall frame stud causing the tank to be on a slight tilt. Will have to completely drain, push the tank back and refill.
Also was wondering if any one has had any experience using standard check valves from lowes/home-depot. Was thinking about using one, but thought the spring inside might rust out. Was going to use some quick disconnects to replace and inspect on a regular basis.

For check valves you would do better to go with a transparent one. That way you can see if the valve is well and truly sealed or not. I know Marine Depot has these - not sure who else. Get one with true unions either side for ease of maintenance and eventual replacement.
To make extra sure of a good seal with teflon tape, add a drop of silicone sealer (the aquarium-safe kind) and wipe it all around the tape with your finger. Silicone won't bond to teflon, but it does seal the smallest spaces in the joint.

I have that same kind in mine for almost 2 years now without any negative affect but will probably replace with a true swing type check valve from BRS when I move the system in March![]()
Nice looking setup.
ThanksNice looking setup.
Hello, I'm also from the area and have a 250 reef. I run a Dart gold pump up to a manifold with four 1 inch outlets back into the tank. I have four drains back into the sump as 2 wouldnt keep up with the pump running 100%. Makes for a nice flow in the tank.
