230 Ohio reef tank

We are back in business. My skimmer impleller has finally been replaced and it is back up and running.

The new sump is on order with NextReef Systems. Should have the sump in about two weeks. They will be sending some pictures of the sump build as it goes along and will post them as they come in. The sump will look something like this when its done. (White with the window)


Here's a shot of the tooling that they use to make the sump. Pretty high tech....

Was playing around with Imovie today for the first time. Not the best video but I gave it a shot. Only if I had a better camera to capture the true colors. Hope you enjoy.

What I did notice for sure is that my water didn't seems as clear as it did with the skimmer running from a side view of the tank. I can't prove or confirm, but I thought for a while some of the SPS was actually coloring up and growing faster. I'm just going to feed a little more (test po4 and nitrates) with the skimmer running and monitor it to see if I have the same results. I really think my skimmer has a tendency to remove to much out of the tank.

Never let your fish work out with more weight than they can lift. Otherwise it's just a recipe for disaster. Also, you should make sure someone is spotting for them during a dead lift. Sorry for your trouble.

Thanks Dave, my clowns were trying to buff up.

:) Was actually total stupidity on my part. Was trying to buff out my acrylic and placed a board on top of the tank (with weight )to overhang the edge so no buffing material would splash up in the tank. I bumped the wood and the weight went in. Knocked 1 year of growth apart. Fortunately, I salvaged the green slimmer pieces I could and puttied them back on the rock. For the thick staghorn I am trying a experiment to see what happens by super glueing the pieces back together. The coral looks a little like Frankenstein. Will see what happens.
 
Another update. NextReef has just sent me the CAD drawings for the new sump. Their are cutting this today and will provide updated photo's as the build goes along. Cant wait to see this person.

Well the sump is installed but disaster struck yet again. The problem has since been solved but the problem was every hobbyist's nightmare. As I put the new sump in. I accidently kicked my close loop pump and caused the gasket at the bottom of the tank to kink. It was about 11 PM and had to go into work 7AM. I spent about 1 hour trying to stop the leak. As I went into PTSD mode and through blood, sweat, and tears, my wife finally put some sense into me and told me that I have to go into recovery mode. All of the tank had to be removed and completely drained. Thank to Walmart being open 24 hours my wife ran out and got 6 32 gallon trash cans. I was able to use the new sump for my prized peices and fish. Needless to say after 48 hours of no sleep, I only lost 1 fish (Anthia) and got a few frags to drop off at the LFS. The tank is now replumbed, back up and running and re-aquascaped. Will take a little time to regrow my broken SPS but glad everything survived.







Also forgot to mention, I added 2 T5's (Fiji Pink & ATI Blue+) to the set up. I am now running 1 Build My LED (Atinic), 1 Reefbrite (Atinic) 2 G3 Radion Pro's and 2 T5's.
