Hmmm...

skimmer envy?

Great house and tank! Looking forward to seeing how it goes.

BTW ... How do you plan to clean the inside? Given the shape and size, I would think that would get rather difficult...

Is that an MRC??? How long did it take for them to build that for you??? Awesome skimmer!!!! I want to see it in action!

Yes, it is an MRC... the build took 3 or 4 months. I'm sure they could have built it faster, but I was in no hurry.

I posted this earlier, but it is hard to find (test video):

Necessity is the mother of invention... at this stage I have no idea!

And friends bust on me about running an an MRC 4R on only about 500 gallons of water!

I stood next to that very skimmer at MACNA 2009 in Atlantic City. It's frickity huge!!!! You may need to connect it right to the sewer!

Did you notice the one in the background of the vid? Not as pretty but bigger yet!

Somehow, I see your cleaning solution involving a snorkle!

I just love this home and tank build!

What I did was install magnet cleaners in the body and neck of mine. I could literally clean my skimmer while it was running.

I spy a Nissan silvia s15! Wish we had those in America :( back on topic love the house and tank build. Very original

The idea of designing the whole house around the aquarium is excellent! Just curious, did you ever consider Sola-tubes or a skylight over the tank as part of the design?
Dave, my original design had 7 solar tubes. The architect took them out... I'm trying to convince him at the moment to put them back in.

had you considered LED's as a lighting source? they seem to be making a big splash with reef keepers right now.

Gooseman, playing around with LEDs now. I will use them over one of two frag tanks to start with. I suspect that within a couple of years, price-performance will be where it needs to be to light the whole tank.

Now, some more photos...

Just amazing!!!!!!!!!!! I'm really enjoying this adventure. I really appreciate you guys that can do things like this to share with the rest of us..........Sometimes I really wonder if I should even be in this hobby??????

"frag tank" (frag tanks...they are bigger than most peoples tanks) stands look good, did you get them made locally?

I guess :wildone:

The two frag tanks are 2400(L) x 600(W) x 450(H) [8' x 2' x 1.5']. I was going to make them 900 wide when I realized that I can only comfortably physically reach ~600mm.

Each tank should allow me to fit ~ 300 frags. If I can turn this over twice a year, I should be able to grow ~1200 frags per year.

The stands were welded up by Dean McFarlane welding in Moolap near the saltworks. Mostly 50mm [2"] square section with 3mm [1/8] wall thickness, except for the frag tank stands. I wanted to be able to span the full 8' without visual disruption. Required 50mm [2"] x 100mm [4"] x 5mm [3/16"] wall thickness. Dean took care of the powder coating and delivery as well. Very happy with his service.

FWIW, I would never have taken this effort to make a frag system visually beautiful before Machado de Sousa who remains an inspiration.

This is one of the images I showed my architect so that he got it:

Machado de Sousa

now that guy has a frag setup... (i drool 2x a year when he updates.......) i wish i lived closer to him.. or you for that fact.. (i would clean your skimmer for free if you let met. haha

Diablo,
I love the fact that you are using natural sea water for your tank (wish I lived close enough to the ocean to us it). I a questions regarding your pre treatment of the water before storaghat. What is your plan for heat? My concern with your holding tank being outside that is that it is going to get really hot and kill off all of the organics inherent is seawater. I would think that this would raise no3 and phosphate.
