240+g tank project

You guys are giving me the creeps about microbubbles. I am using a seq. Hammerhead on my 400 gallon. (planning at least, I have the pump and am awaiting plumming) I fear the worst. Hmmmmm

Anyway, looking good. I miss Columbus.:(

Chris you have a PM

yeah I have one to going into service on Friday even with 12 feet of head I am scared at the amount of water this thing will move. I've seen Chris's tank and he could almost install generators like we have on reservoirs and create his own electricity with the amount of flow he has.

Ya, I have mine running two prop tanks right now, while I work on the new setup. I have both 1 1/2" ball valves throttled back more than half way and still there is a ton of water flowing. Luckily, I will be using the geo built sump from my existing prop system when I switch over. Its a three section sump with about a 1 1/2' x 2' x 1 1/2' first section. I'm hoping that will handle most of the bubble issue. There is a second section, about the same size, currently used as a small fuge, that will be modified a little, but should still act as a second bubble break.

It's a cool looking tank you have there!

Is there any reason that you didn't go with a colored (black or blue) side to hide the external overflow box?

I would have liked to have black sides, but I was trying to save money. I don't think I could have ordered half sheets of 3/4" cell cast anyway.

You could 90 the CL intake through the tank wall depending on your aquascaping. Thats how my drains are on my 280. Sweet looking tank...lets see some pics of it full!

Okay, here is a full tank shot in all it's micro bubble glory. I should have the new sump built in the next couple of weeks, so hopefully that will get rid of the micro bubbles.

Here are some more pics of my micro bubbles and aquascaping.

I plan on tinting the back with dark window tinting.

For now I'm using 2-250w DE up front, and in back I'm using 2-400w SE. All bulbs are Hamilton 14k. I'm also using 4-110w Actinic VHO's.

I added a shallow sand bed for decoration and blacked out the back panel. The sand sure made the tank brighter. Still waiting on the sump before I can get rid of the micro bubbles.

I am currently in the process of a 48"x24"x17"... I am going to use the same type of aquascaping idea as it allows for lots of sand and room for my fish. i love the corals but I also really like my tank to look as natural as possible.

I think that's one of the coolest looking aquascaping shots I've ever seen on RC. Really. I think it looks absolutely awesome (I'm a stag guy). Get a few chromis OR my favorite schooling fish - blue eyed cardinals (I have nine) and they'll seek shelter in those big stags.

Regards,

David

Wow, thank you. I actually do have 6 green chromis in there, but they are probably hiding in the stags. They love to hang out under the branches when I clean the front of the tank. I can't wait to see how big the stags get now that they have more room to grow.

It reminds me of a few of those "Japanese" reef tanks I've seen pix of (invince used to post). Do you plan to keep that aquascape, or put in more rock.

Also, is your sand blowing around much? I am happy with my barebottom but I do miss the look of sand. It's just so hard with all the flow.
