240g and Fishroom build

Well I put 4 on my 180 because I was not happy with 3 and your tank is a bit deeper. I run them at about 85% w 75% r and 80 % b.

Good job so far looks good, One thing I see that could be a concern is your canopy depending where your lights are located you could have shadowing from your cross bracing also the canopy looks like it will be completely enclosed since you have walls on both sides you have no where to put circulation fans if you need them. I know your using LED and heat should not be a concern but if it's enclosed it could pose a probelm down the road plus a lot of salt creep.

Thanks for the feedback. I have been thinking about this. I was thinking of installing a 12v fan in the top of the canopy and having it vent into the attic. Im not to happy with this canopy and plan on building a new one. I will make the changes then. You guys think a single fan would work?

Oh my attic is open on the gables so plenty of fresh air flows through.

Ok, I need input on a return pump. Im gonna have about 13 feet from the pump to the top of the tank to push water out of. Now this pump will also have a manifold with 4 outputs. its a 220 gallon DT so I want 10x that correct? so around 2200 gph pump? now how much more should i add for the manifold? Any ideas on what brand or size pump?

Update

I recieved my 75 gallon tank that will become my sump.
I also rebuilt my canopy due to a squareness issue. So with it rebuilt I installed the lights. I also have started dry fitting the plumbing. Anyways here are a few pictures. I still need to get another light and finish painting the canopy.

He won't hate you. All that OT he is doing will just pay for his tank. Great setup.love the details you are putting in to this build. I have such appreciation for good craftmanship

Thank you! It is my dream tank and I started planning it almost a year ago. Just taking my time, doing it right to save any headaches down the road.

Just might be the best workout he/she will every have.

Hey, we will call it the Pre-Christmas rush workout.

Ok just to bring everyone up to speed. I built the stand for the sump down in the fishroom. However I think im going to lower it to 36 inches. I built higher to try and save water pressure on my return. But at the height now I cant reach in to work on it without having to stand on something.

here I have taped off the placement of the baffles and sock holders.

And the Kilroy approval

I also started my cabinet doors for the canopy.

Tomorrow I should get my sand, rock, return pump, bulkheads and glass drill bit, and some other goodies. My acrylic to build the baffles and sock holder was shipped yesterday. I plumbed everything upstairs just need to glue it up downstairs. Im hoping to conduct a water test in a week or so. And just maybe, maybe ill beable to fill it and start my cycle before christmas!

Oh, also ill be starting my plumbing for my water change system. Its all in my head right now but ill draw my plan out and post it.

Great update! Are you making the sump all on your own? Are you pre-ordering glass at the exact size or do you have something that will cut glass to the size you need?

AND ITS CHRISTMAS IN NOVEMBER!!:bounce1:

Thank you Ojos!
The sump is a 75 gallon (48x18x21) glass aquarium. I ordered acrylic to make the baffles. I will have to cut some of the acrylic for height but the width will be pre-cut.

Oh and let me add this little thing for someone who plans on doing a build. My tank came with pieces of cardboard, a lid and bottom for shipping. I wish i had kept one of them to build and design my aquascape in. the 2 inch lip would have kept crumbs from getting everywhere and I would have been able to picture it in the tank better.

Ok BIG updates!!

Rock and sand are in the tank

Just sizing the pump for the sump and where to drill the tank.

and all hooked up

I finally got around to adding the floor supports in.

And now she is being filled up

Now as the tank is being filled I can start building my sump. I ordered my acrylic from Taps. All though it took a while longer to get my product, they sent everything I bought and well packaged. I used tinted acrylic on the two baffles for the refugium to block the light. I cut the teeth in with my table saw.

Then on the taller tinted baffle I cut openings that will just be above my sandbed.

I then built the sock holder. I wanted the holder where I could get the sock out without shutting down the system and removing a pipe.

It also has the bubble trap baffles just before the tank. I still need to build a media tray for just after the refugium.
