I think it is in good shape. The tentacles are really sticky and the mouth is closed tightly. The foot was burried in the sand and attached to the bottom glass at the store. They let me use a credit card to gently remove the anemone myself.

S. haddoni...I would bet that's not it's natural color. If Petco in Bakersfield are the same as around here, you will need to slowly acclimate it to your lighting as i'm sure it was only under low PC at the store.

+1 but I would bet that is its normal colour:)

although it safe to say that a carpet is "sick" if it is not sticky, it is not safe to say a carpet is healthy if it is sticky... many are sticky up until the moment they die... just make sure you aclimate it slowly to your lighting especially if you are running high wattage hallides like 400s... also make sure you feed it silversides or chunks of krill... mine like silversides... it is probably safe to say that you saved this guys life, petco here in st joe cant even keep a damsel alive let alone a carpet nem

that's too bad. they vary so much from store to store. a petco not too far from me in montgoonieville pa had a colored up H. crispa anemone for about six months. wasn't there on Monday, of course i had to ask about it and was told it just sold the previous week. they actually have a tank bred polymnus clown with great color just like the ora pair on D.D., a rich orange-brown. i'm having a hard time resisting buying it. they've a nice tomini tang too selling low as assorted tangs.

Sometimes I feel like I have to "rescue" the poor fish hanging out in the tanks - the one near me had a nice looking coral beauty & 2 days later I went back to check on it. It was DED dead ... Can't save 'em all ...

you should've seen my copperbanded butterflyfish i found at a petco on the main line. was COATED with ICH but picking frozen brine shrimp! i said i'd take it if they discount it, said they were going to treat it in a tank in the back room, come back a week later. as if i'd trust them i came back two day's latter to find it were it was, the manager said they were treating it with garlic - looked at him with a shocked followed by a psycho killer face! the jerks only took $6 off the $29 list, would've taken it regardless. my neighbor who had salts since slate bottomed stainless steel framed tanks looked at it and said that's a dead fish. two weeks of straight copper followed by another two with Cu/Formalin! that copperband bff has been with me for five years now. :: )))

I think it is a S. Haddoni anemone. I honestly think you got one heck of a good deal on it based on the appearance and I don't see any reason why your anemone wouldn't thrive. I am usually not one to recommend rescueing animals but in your case you got a very nice looking anemone.

Looking pretty good.

I personally would wait until Sunday or Monday evening, just to give it more time to settle in.

What lights do you have? I am going to guess that it was under less then ideal lights at the PetCo, should make sure to acclimate it to your lights. I have found that acclimating Haddonis (( or any anemone for that matter )) to higher lights by using window screening goes a long way towards them settling in.

I have one 400W 14k bulb in a DIY stretch lumenarc type reflector over a 50 gallon rubbermaid tub. The light has an adjustable mount on the ceiling so I raised it up really high to decrease the light intensity. It looks like the light is about three feet above the tank.

I just picked one up today also at petco. $25 after $10 savings with their club card. Mine is the green with white stripes type color. I'll get pic's up later.

That is a nice Haddoni carpet. i hope he will do well for you. He looks healthy for been in your tank only 24 hr

Thats an nice anemone not no Atlantic Carpet!Atlantics anemones will be VERY brown and will not be $25.More like $10 to $15 per anemone!
