been reefing for years telling me to add something liuke a damsel or a clown this weekend to get the tank going
back in the day it was acceptable to use fish to start the biological process, but these days there are more humane ways of doing it other than subjecting fish to a toxic environment. Now a days we throw an uncooked raw dead shrimp from the super market in the tank to get the cycle going. Once the ammonia spikes you remove it and watch the magic happen. When someone has been in this hobby for 5 years doesn't equate to an authority on the subject, they might not be up on the newest breakthroughs.

Today i found a medal halide 400w pendant i got the bulb ballast an fixture all for $125 it was used at my lfs im putting it to work tonight to see how it looks ill have pics tonight!!!!
 
Ok guys today i hit the jackpot my LFS sold me a huge Reef Octopus Protein skimmer. I am very excited man this thing is a monster i have it cleaning now. I also got a Koralia powerhead pushing 1400 GPH. I have my metal halide and all my VHO T5s running. My metal halide is a 14,000k 400 watt and i have two t5 actinics pushing 65 watts a piece and 2 17,000k t5s pushing another 65 watts apiece. My tank is lit up now. Im on my way to home depot for reflectors for my 17,000k t5's and a fan to keep my halide form burning my house down. here are pics i will have more later. Oh and BTW i got the skimmer and powerhead all for $100!!!!!!

tank sorry guys im looking for a better camera i just found my wifes camera ill take more pics when its charged its way better than this camera phone

I have the same problem with having a sump in a non reef stand not alot of head room. I love the size of the tank. Cycle without fish or livestock though.
 
Ok guys water levels are coming down i really think the snails and crabs did the trick cycling wise. I will wait til saturday do a small water change and then im rolling. I still wanna re arange my rock cant find any good scaping ideas anywhere???????
