27 clowns in the same tank 27 months~Thread of the Month

right thats what i was wondering did you start with one of each color and let them split or start with more or what.......tank looks great and ive enjoyed this thread from the get go

I am totally copying you!!! Mimicry is the best form of flattery though.

I just ordered a green and a rose bubble tip anemone. When I first saw the picture I assumed they were long tentacle anemones since I don't see any bubble tips on them, so i'm glad I read more in depth and realized they were BTA's... They aren't so cheap! The rose colored one was $150 from Dr's & Foster's, but I had to get a green one too :)

Rearranging the rockwork to build a shelf for them will be another story. Do you feed the anemone's at all or is the MH and regular tank feeding sufficient? It must have taken a while to get that many clones Nice work!!!

Mona,

It was nice to meet you. The pics do not do your tank justice, the tank in person is simply AWESOME!!!!

How long did it take u to get all of these beautiful anemones?

You can check the date and pictures at the beginning of the thread and kinda see how they reproduce. I started with one Rose a long long time ago in a 240 gallon. If you hit the little red house you can see what they look like when I transferred half of them to the current 210 gallon 4 years ago. They grow and split very slowly if I don't target feed but since starting daily feeding a month or so ago, they have grown like tribbles and I am an anemone farmer. (Wholesale only). All the green anemones are from one original green Jan of 2006. I have removed many clones as they do grow exponentially. I did add one other Rose that has added a few clones also.

Thanks for the compliments!

that is a really cool and unique tank. i could sit and watch those guys all day long. really great movement of the anemones!

Those full-tank shots from the second page - wow. That's just amazing, stunning, beautiful, breathtaking, whatever. You're an amazinf aquascaper, and those anemones are gorgeous.

Beautiful tank!!! What is it that you are feeding the anemones?

It is food that I mixed up, following as close as conveniently possible to Eric Borneman's famous coral food recipe:

http://forum.petstore.com/Topic20086-9-1.aspx

I put the food in ice cube trays before freezing and feed a cube a day.

Thanks all for the really nice remarks.

I added two Hydor Mag 8's in my 120 gallon 5'L x 18"W x 26 1/2"H. My Red Rose BTA's tentacles became shorter and fatter. I think it likes the extra current as do the corals and fish. I even had my baby green BTA show itself about six inches from the red. It had been hiding the the left 18 inches of live rock I dedicated to the BTAs.

I am moving from a 120 gallon 5'Lx'18"Wx26 1/2"H to either a 180 gallon 6'L x 2' x 2' Marineland aquarium with no tempered glass tank or a 180 gallon 6'L x 2' x 2' Aqueon All Glass aquarium with bottom tempered glass. I will be moving two Rena XP4 canisters and two Hagen 110 powerfilters and one hang on setup with a Aqua Medic Turboflotor SL 1000 Multi protein skimmer along with two Hydor Mag 8's (each 3,250 gph) & one Seio 1100 gph for circulation.

Any thoughts on which way to go?

Your GBTAs are some of the most colorful I have seen. Where did you get them from?

Love the YouTube videos too.

I have made my decision and tomorrow I will order a black trimmed Aqueon AGA 180 gallon 6'x2'x2' along with Aqueon's plain black pine stand. My present five foot 120 gallon is 16" in from the back load bearing wall and it leans to the front with the front edge 7/16" lower than the back. I am having Aquarium Paradise do the installation with my wife at home to watch. I will leave written instructions as far as where and what corals I have, python for salt mixing along with a 200 gallon box of Instant Ocean Reef Crystals, three 30 gallon plastic trash cans to drain the old water to supplement the containers they have, two 40lb bags of Florida Crushed Coral Substrate, hopefully rinsed before their arrival, a list of my fish, etc.

The installers will come to do the switch out around a week after the tank's approximate arrival this coming Thursday and put a glossy black background to cover hanging wires and tubes. The owner told me they would probably put a 6'Lx5"Wx1/2"T piece of plywood under the front edge of the stand. Any thought on tank frame shimming?

Finsky,
Thanks for your questions, but in an effort to keep this thread on track, I will send you a private message.

Yes, thank you, my pair of Clarkii clowns are still living in their long tentacled anemone on the left side of the tank and the pair of Tomato clowns are still hosting in their Red Rose Bubble Tip Anemone on the right side of the tank for two and a half years now. The female Tomato used to try and crash the Clarkii's party once and a while although this behavior has not been seen for possibly a year or more. I was delighted recently to see I do have a baby green BTA about one inch in diameter (it was sold mail order through Dr. F & S as a four to six inch specimen and I did get a refund), about eight inches from the eight inch red BTA, show its head about two to three months after it arrived and subsequently went into hiding.

Finsky,
:) Please use the pm button for general questions not pertaining to my tank. I am still writing a long reply but I will say here, when setting up your new tank with Clarkii and Tomato Clowns, you should set up the rocks so the two paris can't see each other. I don't know how old they are but they tend to kill other clowns when they mature.
