270 Gallon SPS tank for JBNY

Very nice JB! I’m sure your new tank will be back in the “idol Tanks” thread very soon.

Congrats Joe. I know you are breathing a big sigh of relief now that the tank is in its final resting place. It looks fantastic and I can't wait to see how everything progresses.

Thanks guys!

To say i'm relieved is an understatement. I was sweating the move all weak. It sucks I have to run off tomorrow morning when I just got the tank in.

Great thread Joe! I can't wait to see it progress. It is inspiring to see such great detail taken in a project.

Thanks.

Joe, it looks very, very nice! I really wish that I had the whole staining thing down like you do. I'm in the process of planning a 180g/210g tank and thinking about the staining makes me cringe. I really want it to look nice but I'm not really sure how it'll turn out. :(

Can't wait to see more progress on your tank, though! ;)

Joe, any updates on the stand? I think I am more anxious to see the stand than I am the tank. ;) That teaser picture of the superb finish has me wondering how it turned out.

Joe, forgot that I had another question. How did you go about bracing the floor in the basement under the tank?

JB, just a quick question. I'm in the process of building a stand and hood for my tank and you happened to end up with the exact same stain color I was looking for. (Not the close ups, but the FTS with the tank on it) Just wondering what stain you used and how you applied it to make it look like that?

Thanks!

Thanks for all the kind words guys!

OK here is and update. The day after the tank went in I went away for a week on business. Then came back and was on vacation for a week. So virtually nothing has been done on the tank. But now relaxing time is over, time to get back to work. :)

The only thing I was able to start was, first off, fixing the finish. Before I put the tank down I put some blue painters tape on the edge of the stand top to protect the finish from any scratches when bringing the tape on. Unfortunately the tape pulled pieces of the finished off when it was removed. So much for protecting the finish. Turns out you are not supposed to use that kind of tape with poly finishes. Anyway, I have been trying to fix the finish but I don't think I am going to be able to get it back to what it was. :( I've still got top play around with it but I don't think it will come out perfect.

The other piece I started to play with is making the drawers for the stand. If you remember, I decided to use drawers in the stand rather than doors. I've never installed drawers before so I needed to practice a bit to get it down.

I've got a ton of pictures from the tank move I will post later on today, I'll also get some pictures of the other stuff I've been doing.

Jim, I have not braced the floor under the tank yet. The whole sump room under the tank is going to be redone, That should get started next week.

Wow, I thought I had read through this whole thread before I posted. Wasn't trying to be that guy, if you know what I mean. I guess thats what I get for reading before I drink the morning coffee?
