270 Gallon SPS tank for JBNY

Joe, happy new years. I have read this whole thread awhile ago so I don't recall, but do you have a remote deep sand bed? If not would you ever consider implementing it? Why or why not? Also, have you reworked your lights? I am going through the same problem of light racks. I made a single rack w/ the MH and VHOs only to find that I can't get into the tank and around vhos without burning my arm. So I am thinking of taking them off and installing a cabinet drawer roller to move them above the tank.

Sounds like fish poisoning to me. To lose 13 fish at one time (no timeline specified so I'm assuming) sounds too "fishy" (forgive me...couldn't think of anything else) to me. Even if there was a predator in the tank, they couldn't disappear that fast and it not be big enough to notice.

Hey guys,

Really I don't know what happened on the fish. I had a school of 13 splitfin anthias in the tank. They are about 1.5" long, so they are pretty small. They were in the tank about 2 weeks. It took them about 5 days to start coming out and then they were out all the time and schooling in a tight formation, so they looked pretty cool. I was trying a lot of different kinds of food to get them to eat. I think they were finally eating cyclopeeze though. Everything seemed to be fine. after about the two week mark, I noted that only about 5 of the fish were out for two days, then I only saw 3-4 fish hiding under a rock. Then two days later I saw none. About 1 week later one fish showed up dead on a tunze.

That's it. the other 8 or so fish are doing fine. I don;t know what happened.

I'll post some renovation pictures later this afternoon.

I don't have a remote sand bed. I don;t think I would use one. With my old tank I found that I had much better coloration with the corals that were in the main tank with a sand bed. The corals that were in the frag tank, even though it was plumbed into the main system, the corals did not look at colorful, the only thing different was no sand bed.

I have not reworked the lights. right now it is just the MH on the tank from 12 PM to 9 PM.

Since you asked for it I will post some pictures of the bathroom renovation.

Here are some shots right before the demo, as well as some after everything has been cleared out.

Wow, that bathroom is huge by NYC standards!
Love the color you chose.
I feel your pain on the remodelling front. I also had to postpone my tank build because of a bathroom remodel :(
I am almost done with mine, just waiting for the glass for the shower to be delivered.... then on to the tank!!!

I love that wall mural. Is it all made of tiny tiles? The picture is kinda small to tell for sure.

Nice job.

Yes, the mural is made up of hundreds of tiny mosaic marble pieces. The rest of the bath is in travertine.
