CARBON REPLACED….…

Replace my carbon today…cannot believe it’s already a month since I started Zeovit… how fast times fly… :bounce1:

Also some picture of the softies and LPS I place in last night.

LPS â€"œ Green Maze Favia:
Slightly bleach on the side as part of it was under shade in my current tank but should color back up in a couple of weeks :p

LPS â€"œ Cataphyllia Jardinei Short tentacle Pink-tip Elegant:
Been with me over 15 months and have grown from the size of a tennis ball to a basket ball….!! Used to have another Elegant with Green tip that was doing really well until my Emperor took a liking to it but somehow he does not touch this one so hopefully it stays that way !!

LPS â€"œ Pink Lobophyllia hemprichii:
This has also grown twice in size since I got it

Softies - Green/ Orange Mushrooms:
Started with only 2 â€"œ 3 pulps and have grown a lot more pulps since then… the colors are really intense and give good colors at the bottom of the tank. Once it fully grown over the rocks will look very natural….

Pink & Orange Zoa:
Now I need to get some more crazy colored Zoa and make myself a Zoa garden…!! Hopefully my Angles don’t start munching them:hammer:

Feather Duster and Coco Worm Family:
Will add on more variety of feather duster and Coco worm as I go along…

Those LPS and softies seem to have settled in nicely… :spin3: tomorrow I’m planning to place some frags in to see how they do…

Meanwhile, I need to get a tripod and learn to take better close-up as my hands are all shaky….. :hmm4: How do you guys get those close up of polys?? Do you guys take it in larger size and just crop the picture down??

Ed,
would you recommend the tunze system instead of a CLS?

We still haven't made our final decision on that part of the tank yet.

i would, they use less power move more water and you can point and move them.

propeller pumps > closed loop

Ed i love that elegance coral of yours.

For the picture question a tripod definitely helps get the close up shots. I use a Sigma 105mm macro lens and if that's not enough I also crop my macro shots significantly. I get pretty good polyp shots this way.

Things look great btw!

Why not just wait for the new Tunze wavepump to come out instead of changing your circulation pump since you already got the Ehiem running??

i want 200gph more flow thru the sump...

We still haven't made our final decision on that part of the tank yet.

Both have +/- but I do agree with GSMguy. If you planned out your tank in advance, you can have your pumps hidden....below is a summary of the +/- I can think of for each:

CL Strength:
- No visible pumps
- If used OM you can have random wave with different choice combination

CL Weakness:
- Pre fix location as holes are pre-drilled
- Add on to risk with add holes at bottom of tank
- Unable/ difficult to service over period of time once CL get stuck with Calcium composites, algae, etc...
- Consumer more electricity/ power
- If tank is with sand bed, it increases the risk of the sand going into the OM and getting the turn drum stuck... :( happens to quite a few people I know
- Not flexible flow as the holes you pre-drill are not changeable
- More plumbing work :)

Streams Strength:
- Wider and more flexible flow (you usually can get much more flow out of a stream as there are choices of streams you can buy)
- Easy to clean
- Reduce flow ability during feeding time or night time (of course you need a controller but the feature are there)
- Choices....so many choices and combination to suit your needs today
- No add plumbing required

Streams Weakness:
- Price.... we all wish it could be cheaper
- Unsightly inside tank of not properly planned
- Size - but this is getting better with the the new Tunze Streams and other brands like VorTech coming into the picture with smaller overall surface....
- Cabling - a lot more cabling to hide :D
- Uncover/ protected pumps can be a fish and anemone trap !!
- Can create sand storm if you are planning a sand bed (but this can be solve by either the right location of the pump placement or the size of sand grain you used (I used 3-4mm size grain and no sand storm form my 2 x 6201)

Overall cost for both I think it's about the same, if you add in the add plumbing for CL. I was also originally wanted to go for CL as I just hate to see pumps in my display but after much thoughts, I went with Streams and design my tank to get them hidden from sight

Hope you find it helpful Sandy. By the way, what type of reef tank are you planning?? This will help to see what type of flow you would required, thus helping you make your decision.....

Cheers......

Thanks thirschmann - I hope to be able to take pictures like you one day...I'm using a Nikon D70 with a 105mm Micro lens so seem I got the right equipments but poor knowledge in taking corals/ fishes pictures... I'm a point and shoot type of guy (everything in auto mode) Not sure if you are familiar with Nikon but any tips on type of setting I should used??
