Got myself a TWIN….

The tank is starting to shape up nicely….:inlove: Still have some more SPS to transfer over but I will observed this batch for a week first. So far the initial 3 days all seem fine with good PE :love2:

Now if only I can take better pictures… :sad1:

Just finished going through this thread. Ed, congrats on a really well planned and implemented system. Looks like you did everything right!

My next tank will be a large ~600g peninsula similar to yours. Current system is built into wall and working on it is a real pain. And unless I use a mirror I cannot see what is going on in the sides and back of the tank. And my aquascape is a big pile of rocks that, needless to stay, has been a real headache because of instability and poor adherence of superglue underwater. Next time it is a lot of drilling and PVC/acrylic rods to create a more open structure. Or just go with prefabricated structures.

I choose a lot of the same equipment as you (Deltec skimmer and calcium reactor, I~Spin zeo reactor, Profilux controller). I'm also using a Deltec FR509 for carbon, as I choose active over passive carbon filtration because of several noxious nephthea soft corals and gorgonians in the tank, and a KM500 for my top off system. Although kalk is not recommended with Zeovit, my house has high CO2 levels and tank pH runs low (7.9-8.1 even with kalk).

The self cleaning head is worthwhile. Before I installed it the skimmer output would diminish after two days because of build up on the riser tube. Now it cranks out nog continually, I just wipe the edge of the riser tube every week or so. And the flushing system has eliminated (ok minimized) odor. Unfortunately when it does come time to do a thorough cleaning, it is pretty nasty as the parts of the cleaning head accumulate a lot of nasty gunk and it is harder to get it off the brushes and associated hardware than just the collection cup.

I'm now subscribed and look forward to watching your tank progress.

Thanks ekovalsky for your kind words...drilling the rocks was the best thing I did and the one thing I hated most from my current tank :D My current tank is quite similar to your and that's one of the reason I decided on this upgrade... Look like your new build is going to be great...!! Remember to start a build thread :D

How do you like the Deltec Cleaning head? Was thinking of getting one eventually in the future...one of the reason I decided to go with Deltec is because of the cleaning head feature, which will be great if I have to go on one of my business travels... How often do you have to lean the head?

As for the Controller, still have not used the full potential yet.... too busy adding corals into the tank... I need to get my ATO working at least...maybe next week once I complete transferring all my corals into the new tank

As for your Ph level, you might want to open your windows a lot more or at least have a fan to extract the air out from under your cabinet to see if this will increase your Ph a little more but 7.9-8.1 is still good...

Cheers....

LED NOT WORKING?

LED NOT WORKING?

4 of my LED lights started blinking last night and later on 2 of the LED no longer work?? I have send the distributor an e-mail so let’s see how they deal with it…

Meanwhile……..as I can’t seem to trap anymore of my fishes….I decided to go to the LFS yesterday and see what shipment they have??

I was very fortunate as someone just tear down their FWLR tank and I got hold of their fat Masked Rabbitfish….

This picture was taken 10 min after he got into the tank:

They also have a shipment of Anthias, which I got 3 more to add on to my 2 Anthias in my current tank.

I also got a ready eating Juv. Moorish Idol so hopefully he will do well…he is currently in my MPT until I’m certain he can compete with my greedy fishes in there….

All corals place in so far are doing fine…… :p

Looking good!

Im looking at those 3 acro pieces on the ledge low and center and im wondering what you ahve them attached to. Are those large kinda pyramid type things under them epoxy? or small pieces of rock?

Also, are they just sitting on there so they would be easy to move later? Or are all your corals glued on to your main rock structure...

They are on frag base stuck on pegs so easily move up...eventually I will move them up but just acclimatizing to the lights slowly as they look out of place there... :)

Most corals are not in final positions yet and will be only once I move all my corals over..

Wow that looks amazing. How much less was that dried rock from real live rock? Agian this is incredibal and that light must cost a ton.

Wow I was captivated by your build, you should be proud. I looked through all 35 pages this tank is going to be amazing in a year, when all those corals that you moved start growing out.

It looks great now, its only going to keep getting better with time.
Thanks Again.

Hi Nanocube14 - LR vs. DR is about 50/50 mix...... yes, the lights is not cheap but hopefully will pay back over time. :D

Thanks Rocmtnreef - must be quite a read... :D Glad you enjoy reading the build as much as I enjoy updating.... Once those corals mature, hopefully it will look like some of the inspiration tanks I see here in RC :p

Cheers.......

i really like your rock work the two big pillars look great

Thanks FUA - originally I was a little concern that the 2 pillars was too much and there was some that even suggested I lower the end pillar but so far I'm glad I didn't as once the corals grow in, it should look very natural..

Cheers...Ed

1ST CLASS SERVICE …

1ST CLASS SERVICE …

Now this is first class Customer Service

Just send my distributor for my Solaris an e-mail yesterday evening and already this morning got a reply that they will send the replacement LED by mail this week….

They also say that the LED blinking issue could be cause by the 2 LED blown so the power is not distributed equally… so let’s see once I received the replacement LED and hook it up and see if the blinking will stop..

Ive spent the last 2 days reading and staring at aww of this tank.. you have convinced me for sure to drill and putty my rocks.. thats an amazing aquascape... unfortunately my 270 is coming down but when it goes back up i will pull this thread up again ...
thanks for great pictures, details , hardships and your product evaluations... I chose the ATI powermodules over the LED but i dont think i would have if I read this thread first.
great job .... (subscribed)
