I have to agree. I can't wait to see her glass doors installed. Her tank is insane. I am waiting on a 24" Solaris for my 120. Should be in in about 2 weeks. Can't wait.

Hi guys....I'm back....missed me?? :D

Ed, are you going to do any wave box?

Using only 1 ext wavebox and 2 Tunze 6201 in an ext box, which should work similar to a wavebox (I think, depending how you adjust it) which hopefully should get me a 1" to 1.5" wave.....not like your thou' :p

Wow, real time!! What are the wheels going to be used for?

Steve is on a wavebox brigade! :D

Yeah, agree....he is going to influence quite a few people in RC with his set-up...

Ed Reef, What a great thread. I have enjoyed your updates. I am designing a tank for Los. A lot of simularities between the two tanks. I just ordered the 24" Solaris. Should be in stock in about 2 weeks. If this works then maybe Los will use the Solaris. Great job and I look forward to follow along

Thanks rixwcapt.....great light and can't wait for mine to arrived. Great flexibility in terms of colors....but only time will tell if I made the right decision... Once I received my unit, will try to do a detail review as much as possible from the user point of view as there is many Solaris user out there but not much review due to the sensitivity of the subject... :rolleye1:

and thanks for helping paulsilver to find Marcy's thread...

great updates, Ed your canopy is strong enough to hold my display :D

Thanks Bart...yes, the canopy frame work is pretty strong...I actually attempted to do chin press-up on the frame and it holds... (sorry guys no picture of that)

I will update more tomorrow when I got a moment as I'm now need to clear my in-tray..... :( Ed

2-WAY RAIL TRACK FOR LIGHT

2-WAY RAIL TRACK FOR LIGHT

7 April, 2008 (Monday)

OK, back from my traveling schedule and just a quick update:

This is what I’m working on tonight after my work..………

One of the problem with the Solaris light is it’s very narrow in width and the Led light is very focus (like a spot light) and even with my planned aquascaping, I want the flexibility to adjust the width and length of the light fixture every so often depending on the growth of my SPS, without necessary dismantling my whole fixture…I also want to be able to push my light fixture aside whenever I want to do maintenance or placing new frags…!!

With that, I have created a 2-way light rail system…:D

The rail consists of 3 layers, with the 1st layer at 2m fix across the canopy top. Then below this 1st layer is a 2nd layer frame with rollers attached to the 1st layer….so that the fixture can be moved along the left/ right of the tank (if required). Then below this 2nd layer is a 3rd layer frame with rollers attached to the 2nd layer….so that the lights can be moved from front to back easily and finally the Solaris is mounted on to this 3rd layer with the standard 54" long stainless steel airline cable that is adjustable in height.

Not sure if I make any sense but below are some picture to illustrated better…

I also drilled a hole through the aluminum and used a steel cable to tie the 1st track rail as add support, even thou the entire rail is already screw onto the main canopy frame

For those who is wondering how the track rail looks like… ;)

After reading back my post, I think it can be quite confusing so below is some pictures to better illustrate the rail concept...hopefully it's helpful for those thinking of doing similar set-up...

Ed, i was in Beijing 2 summers ago to learn chinese at Beijing university and everyday when i was on my way to school, i was looking at the construction field and the workers was there everyday, even some of those site would be occupied 24 hours a day and your tank remind me of that time, you are working VERY FAST but everything is looking really nice! I hope that next time i get back to China, i will have the occasion to come by check out your tank ;)

u're more than welcome Richard.... must say one thing about this country is they can move FAST when required but sometimes to get them to start is the most difficult part... :)

When my Profilux comes in, I would defiantly need your help to see what' the best set-up....are u using it to control your wavebox and Tunze??

Ed, the new diagram really helps. Now I understand! I was confused earlier! New sump looks great, too. And I like your white, fuzzy slippers :D

great designed features on sump, now finally you're up to date :D.

Thanks Bart - with you policing the thread, how dare I not be up-to-date? :D :p :rolleye1:

nice graphics Ed... and great system overall... personally I still skeptical about the ZeoVit reactor... too tempermental, or too efficient, or ... blah blah blah...

Ed: Have you used one before? Your reasoning for using one in this instance? I would be curious to know.

wit the reactor you have control of its Efficiency everything from flow thru to anaerobic time with the feed pump off.

without the reactor you have no control and mulm is harder to knock loose.

LIGHT FIXTURE ARRIVED

LIGHT FIXTURE ARRIVED

9 April, 2008 (Wednesday)

My light fixture also arrived …… NO, this is not the Solaris but a made-in-China 60cm T5HO 24w x 6 for my frag tank…. :rolleye1: Build quality is only average but I figure won’t be needing such good quality lights YET for my frag tank at this present moment as it acts only as a temporary tank for my SPS during the initial stage where I only used it to place those frags which I just glue to the plugs and getting the corals slowly acclimatizes to the tank water… at times will also be used as a temporary quarantine tank for new fishes and release into the main display only once already eating and healthy.

Will be at least 2 year or more before I actually used them for actual fragging purposes… :hmm3: so for the time being, I will call this a multi-purpose tank
