2x54 T5 for BTA

Hey there fellow reefers, so i have a 55 gal tank that i would like to dedicate to BTA's. Since BTAs are more accepting of lower lighting, i was wondering if my 2x54 T5 fixure would be sufficient to sustain the BTAs. Thanks in advance!

ok cool. i mean i have a 4x54 T5 fixture that im sure is good enough for a BTA, i was just debating whether i should use the 4x54 on my reef and the 2x54 on the anemone tank.

IMO, 2x54 T5 lighting would be a little, um, light. The 4x54 would be acceptable, but they can take a lot more than that.

thanks for the input guys. i know that i dont have the best lights out there but i put the anemones in the tank with the 4x54 T5 a few hours ago and they look happy. obviously its gonna take awhile before i can really tell.

Thanks again guys.

4 t-5s on a 55g should be fine, if they're in a fixture with individual reflectors then that's all the better and more than adequate for BTAs.

I agree 2x54watts is low. I got 4x54watts and I have 4rbtas and a gbta. I have had them under that lighting for 8 months and they are still going strong. I am however updating to a 6x54watt ati just for more color combos.

yup, a fixture with all individual reflectors. i feel better now. for a bit i thought that the 4x54 wouldnt be enough. but i heard all kinds of stuff from diff ppl so thats y i was confused lol some say that my 2x54 would've sufficed and others say that my 4x54 wouldnt be enough. but now that theres someone with the same lights as me i feel that they'll work.

thanks guys.

Since 4x54=216, would 6x32=192 be comparable for lighting a 55g 16 inches deep max for a BTA?

I'm for sure not an expert, but how tall is your rock? They will climb until they either find the light they like or can't climb anymore.

As long as the fixtures were comparable, equal wattage should give about the same light. Different technologies (PC vs T5HO) and different reflectors will give very different results for the same wattage.

Yeah, i just went ahead and spent the money on a 4 slot t5 HO hood. Better safe than sorry i guess.
