Friend has a new blue throat in a 40b qt tank his color and appearance looks good just has no interest in food. We tried mysis, brine, clams, krill, pellets, and squid just locks him self flat under the pvc like a pancake. He does move from spot to spot over night. No lights are over the tank and he has not been treated with anything. Been 5 days now any suggestions welcomed or just wait it out?

Garlic soaked food or for my 2 blue throats I use live black worms. They go nits for these guys and I noticed I've have them for about 6 months and still have to move about 10 feet away from the tank and not move for them to come out very very shy fish

Try feeding and leaving the room. Probably isn't going to eat with someone staring at him, they are smart fish.

Once he figures out the world isn't ending, it will be a lot easier. I had to hide motionless in the room to even see my trigger for the first week. As soon as I would move...zip...back into the rock.

I agree very shy trigger may not eat for awhile but like posted try feeding and walk away. Good luck

Not looking good he was just laying flat on the sandbed when we went to feed him today and he swam back under his rock. Most fish I see laying flat on the sandbed end up dead. When we feed him we just drop the food by him than leave his been by himself with the lights off for 6 days know. Looking kinda skinny will pick blackworms up today.

hang in there ,its pretty normal for triggers to lay flat under rocks and in the sand. i have a blue throat trigger and it took a while to eat and i also could not be in the room while he ate. i had to hide and peek into the room to see if he ate give him time he will come around.

Six days without eating sounds like an eternity; but it isn't. I've had a lot of fish hold out a lot longer than this, nowhere near panic time.

Man you guys are awesome thanks for the support. Just got off work wasn't able to make it to the lfs for live food called Dave though said he will wait for me tomorrow. Going to try live brine shrimp and worms. Took a quick look still alive and alert.

BJs (what an acronym) will eat about anything when they're hungry. I've never really thought that you could get a fish that wasn't eating at all to start by just changing foods, or adding garlic. Now I'll contradict myself: my favorite trick for finicky new fish is a freshly opened clam from the market. This always works for me and they're also a great treat for all your fish.

BTW: After capture; many fish aren't even fed for a week or so---depending on the source.
