300g SPS Dominated Reef!

Could we get you parameters? Nutrients?

Yeah i should start heading down to FL regularly next month. People love to fly down there starting at thanksgiving. What part are you from?

Im in Cape Coral approximately 2hrs from Miami.

Im also curious if you're dosing anything. Two part or calcium reactor? It's quite apparent you're doing something correctly.

Here are the parameters I currently test.

Salinity: 1.026 sg (ATC Refractometer)
pH: 8.0-8.2 (apex)
Nitrate: 5ppm (Salifert)
Phosphate: 0.01 ppm (Hanna ULR)
Alkalinity: 8.5 dKH (Hanna)
Calcium: 520 ppm (Salifert)
Magnesium: 1440 ppm (Salifert)

I use Kent Marine Reef Salt which is the reason for my high calcium levels, corals don't seen to care though. I also try to do weekly water changes of 45g. Some weeks I don't get to it but for the most part I at least do 3 water changes in any given month.

I dose 40ml of ME Polyp Extender daily. To maintain Alk, Ca & Mag I run a GEO618 CaRx filled with Reborn media and Neomag. I use a Masterflex pump to feed the reactor and a Carbondoser to control co2.

One last thing I forgot to mention is that I run the skimmers air intake outside of the house to help keep the pH higher and more stable. I also run the refugium light on opposite schedule to help as well.

Have you ever thought of less frequent water changes? I mean in no way shape or form can one argue at your method isn't working. The tank looks incredible!!! Just seems like a lot of salt and water on a regular basis and I was curious if you went 2-3 weeks before changes what the outcome would be.

I currently have a 90g softie/LPS tank, I just can't seem to keep SPS. Your tank is one of the best I have seen, I truly mean that. One day I hope I can achieve an SPS reef like yours

Im actually toying with the idea of moving to bi-weekly water changes simply because it will be easier and less time consuming for me. It will also save me some cash long term. I will probably do this in January so I will let you guys know what the outcome is but Im sure it won't do any harm do the system.

Stability and consistency is key when keeping SPS. That is what I tell everybody. You can have the best equipment available but if don't keep the water chemistry stable and at the recommended levels you will have a hard time keeping SPS alive.

Ah the west coast of FL. We fly down to the east coast more often but some trips down to APF or SRQ occasionally too. If i dont make it over there i may just have to have a pack shipped to me once the move is complete.

Did you ever dose 2 part prior to a CA reactor? Im thinking of building a diy reactor. 2 part has been decent with a doser but i feel like a reactor would add another level of consistency.

Yea shipping is no problem.

I got the reactor installed at the 6 month mark which was when I really got the tank filled with SPS frags. Prior to that I was dosing 2-part but it wasn't much since I didn't have that many SPS.

I like the reactor much better because once you get it dialed in its a breeze. You don't have to touch it at all for months. I like to test alk levels once a week and its always between 8.3-8.5

How did you accomplish this? I tried to do the same, for the same reason, and the increased resistance on the airflow was an issue.
