How did you accomplish this? I tried to do the same, for the same reason, and the increased resistance on the airflow was an issue.

My tank sits next to an exterior wall so I drilled a 1/2" hole and ran about 8ft of 1/2" pvc from the skimmer to the wall and outside through the hole. I connected the air silencer of the skimmer to the pvc using 1/2" poly tubing. I have pictures on my computer that I will upload later.

and this valve is for water changes. I open it, it drains the sump down to the marked section and then I close it. Go to the garage, open another valve and plug in a pump and water flows from the garage to the sump.

Just to try something else. This tank was first started with LED's (6x Arctic T247). With the LED's I had decent colors and growth. About 6 months in I decided to supplement the LED's with T5's. I went ahead and added 2 bulbs in the front and two in the back. It was a total of 8x 4 foot bulbs but I count them as 2 and 2 since the tank is 8ft long. Shortly after adding the T5's frags exploded with new growth and colors began to get much better. I ran this setup for 12 months only running the T5's for 4hrs a day and the LED's for 11hrs.

I figured that if only 4 bulbs on for 4hrs a day made such an impact with 8 bulbs (total 16x bulbs, 8x 4 foot on each side) on for 8hrs a day supplemented with some Royal Blue led strips for sunset and sunrise, growth and colors can only get better, at least Im hoping so
