300g SPS Dominated Reef!

anything specific you want to know? I build it myself so I can answer any question you may have.

Affordable_Reef - I am thinking about building my own stand for tank that will be somewhere along the lines of 82 L x 40 W x 26 H. I am still debating on going with steel vs wood but if you have any more pictures of your supports or just your general construction of the stand I would love to see them. If you want I can send my personal email and you can just send to me. Great pics again.

What camera and and lens are you using for your coral pictures? Top-down box no flash? And software for you post processing...nice sharp pictures....really shows the quality of the corals.

Thanks in advance

Sorry for the late response, christmas shipping has kept me busy.

If you can get it made out of steel go for it. Nothing against wood but with still you will have a lot more room.

As for pictures this is what I have.

Left: Bottom frame (2x4)
Right: Top frame (2x6)

As for my camera I used a Nikon D300 with a Sigma 18-200mm & 90mm Tamron macro. For top down, I use an Avast porthole and no flash. I shoot raw and import into Adobe Lightroom.

No problem on the delay its the holiday season and family comes first. I noticed what looked like notches on your legs. will that impact the amount of load...how is it reinforced?

WOW Beautiful tank. Great job!

I've never really been an sps guy, but some of those colors are insane. Seeing them, I may have to try a frag or 2.

I might have missed it but what do you add as far as supplements go and how often do you water change? Also wondering which salt you use!

You have my dream setup!

Yes those notches were made so that I could slide in & out my sump through the side door. I'm sure it impacts the weight it can hold but as far as an exact number I'm not sure. However, 2x 2by4's can support 2,911 lbs and each individual 2by4 can support 636 lbs each. That's roughly 14,000 lbs and the tank weights roughly 4000 lbs wet. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the vertical notches don't have much of an impact.

If you are referring to the new lights I will be adding Actinic led bars. Most likely SB reef lights "SBars" but Reef Brite XHO are also an option.

As for the salt I've been using Kent Marine Reef Salt since day one. Recently I sent in a Triton test and the results showed high levels of Li and a couple more elements. After getting the results back I went through a box of Fritz RPM salt (roughly 180 gallons at 1.026) I sent in another sample and the higher level of Li came down quite a bit along with the other elements that were high before.

For most of the time this tank has been set up I've done weekly water changes of 45 gallons. I plan to lower that to maybe 2 a month or even 1 every 3 weeks using Fritz. Mainly because of the cost and because with my CaRx and refugium weekly water changes are not necessary.

Beautiful. Would live to see more top down acro shots.

Unfortunately there won't be more pictures of this reef tank. During the week of New Year's the tank crashed. Nitrate spike to over 50ppm and unfortunately all my SPS which is 99% of the tank died and or turned brown within 24hrs. I decided to sell the whole system because I had no interest in restarting this tank after the crash.

I will be replacing it with a smaller system, something around 150g with sump. A new thread with start as soon as I make up my mind of which tank to get.

Seriously??? How the nitrate spike? I am bummed for you, hopefully anyone you sold frags to can refrag you. Had I got a pack I would resend them to you.
I'll be watching for your new thread.
Good luck

Corey
