3140/2 or 240/3

Roger, I am afraid my skimmer need may not allow me to wait till fall for a 9000 series skimmer. In view of this do you find one model of closed loop skimmer more effective? I can accommodate either model in my sump. I did see one post that a comline owner was having trouble with minimum water depth for a comline similar to my depth of about eleven and one half inches. I have used a variety of skimmers over the years and view ease of cleaning and low fiddle factor to be of maximum importance. Are both compatible with ozone and does it improve performance? The streams and calcium reactor continue to impress please post when you receive the new multi controller. Thanks Bill

The comline is more effective at this time because it has been redesigned. Unfortunately I am backordered on both models and cannot give an ETA. They are ozone safe but when you pass about 5mg/l do to the closed loop you see no increase in effectiveness and the plastic slowly becomes harder. Thanks for the comments and I will definitely post when the multi is available, I finished the manual last week but now it has to be translated and the pictures added. Unfortunately on the skimmer I just don't have a solution for you at this time. I only have the 3130/2 and 3110/2 and 230/3 skimmers in stock.

With the new skimmer cup on the 240/3 I would say yes. With that said I have used a 230/2 on my 120 for the past 5 years. Of the current models I would again choose the 3130/2 as the new venturi has given it a slight edge.

Roger,

I have two 3130/2 skimmers. How can I check if I have the new venturi or the old one?

Thanks in advance!

The new venturi is one piece. Also, the latest model has a flat back, on the older ones it was cut out to insert the pump. Now the pump goes in from the bottom and is completely hidden. The silencer is different too, it is longer, built in and uses heavy silicon airline like a Euroreef.

Roger,

My venturi is in two pieces (a white and a brown part) :(

I hope I can upgrade to the new venturi by just ordering a new part ?

Yes, I know. It was a mid year change and the web site still isn't updated. It will appear in the next revision this fall.

Roger do you find ease of setup and maintance easier for one model? If you used a 230 on your 120 i assume it was adequate? Can a 230 be upgraded to a 240 if needed? Bill

A 230 cannot be upgraded to a 240 as the body is different. I felt the 230 was adequate and the lack of a more complicated Electronic Turbelle makes it simpler to use. Again, it sounds like you have room for the 3130 and this is a better skimmer at this point due to numerous upgrades in the past few months. It actually already has the hydrofoamer pump from the new skimmer.

Roger,

I just received 3130.160 parts for my two 3130/2 but unfortunately they can't be used because they don't have hole drilled for the air input like the old diffusor had.

Or maybe I got bad parts (it looks like they should have air input just like the old ones did) ?

Yes, it should have an air input. It is one piece, you won't use the white nozzle any more. That is very strange, I have never seen an unfinished nozzle.
