3166 Question

Roger,

I'm getting ready to order a 3166 to go with my 9010 + foam extractor creating a stronger Reefpack setup. Does the 3166 come with the plastic mounting tabs for the Osmolator sensors? The 3166 that came with my original reefpack did - also what exactly does the 3166 come with?

This is what I plan on ordering - I don't want to order anything that is not required. I already have 2 sets of mounting magnets, although I found that I can mount the Reefpack fairly securely with just one 6200.50 magnet holder since the 3166 is glued to the skimmer.

The 3166 includes the sensor holders and it basically is complete with all the tubes and afilter cartridge, you just need a pump.

Your list looks complete to me.

Thanks - I couldn't find anyone that had this stuff in stock. I ordered from Champion Lighting since it looked like it was in stock. Turns out after ordering from them that everything is dropped shipped from you. Can you let me know the wait time on my order?

PS - ordering Tunze equipment is a bit like an easter egg hunt, IMO the process could be improved. I've ordered from 4 different vendors just to get the equipment I wanted - nothing major mind you.

You could pretty much stock an entire store with nothing but Tunze stuff so the more eccentric items most places don't stock. I have all of those items in stock. There is one problem, I have 2 3166 and both of them are brown.

If its a long wait for the black 3166 I'll go with the brown. It would be ideal if hobbyists can order directly from you since stock varies so much between dealers, just hunting down who has what and calling them to make sure its in stock is a hassle. On top of that the added shipping/handling in doing piece meal ordering is an unnecessary expense. I've ordered my Deltec stuff directly from Doug in the past and that has worked well - perhaps Tunze can offer something comparable?

Selling direct creates a conflict with the dealers, the only way around this is to raise my price above theirs and then their would be little point and retail sales is probably the most thankless and difficult job in the world. I simply would not be able to keep up with the orders and do repairs and run this forum and design and test new products and frankly I would probably quit from having all the headaches of people screaming about this, that and the other thing, it's bad enough just trying to get everything here. I only have to read the vendor forum here to remember how bad retail sales can be, even the best service doesn't go unpunished. Any one of our dealers could arrange for all of these items to be available to you together, I apologize that some of them aren't up completely on all the items and what they do but you can always reach me here to ask before you buy. I have found that independent LFS's are better at stocking more of the product range and in the long run I hope to have a more effective local dealer network, this would be a great help if people could walk in and get things repaired locally.

I am not sure how long it would take to get the 3166 in black. I would say for sure less than 6 weeks, probably less than 4. If you don't mind the wait I will order them in black today.

Thanks, I'll just take the brown one - in a few months the color difference won't be apparent. One of the reasons I keep on buying Tunze is your excellent support. Hopefully you'll get more dealers and they will stock more of equipment like some of the freshwater planted equipment.

Mike, I appreciate your comments and your support. I know some sort of direct sale program has been kicked around in Germany for just the reasons you mention, I guess I can't rule it out completely, if I had more help- which we need more sales to be able to afford, always the catch. I could probably do something like that.
