330 Gallon Stream recommendations

Roger et al,

I'm considering closing up my closed loop (Ampmaster 3000) on SeaSwirls and switching to a couple Stream pumps. I'd like to get some suggestions on what I need to get. From what I've read, I can use a single controller for 2 pumps. My tank is 375 gallons and 96x30x30.
Which Stream pumps would you recommend?
My tank is acrylic and I'd need some tips on mounting the pumps. I have a good sized acrlyic lip around the perimeter, 6 inches from the lip to the side wall (see schematic below). Do you make an extension that can hang the pump from that lip and a reach that far back?

Thanks!!
Mike

I would recommend 2 6100 Streams and a Multicontroller to start. Kit 3000.26 can accomodate braces up to 5.5" I personally prefer the approach of drilling a hole. It makes the installation much neater. I would get the multicontroller because you have more options and a tank this size if done with a lot of SPS might benefit from more pumps down the line.

Roger,

Tell me a little (or point me to a description) of this "hole drilling" process. I don't see any of your mounts that go through acrylic, just latch onto the edge.

Mike

Yes, but they latch on a vertical or horizontal edge. Let me find the thread and I will point you toward it.

Roger,

Sorry if I'm thick headed here, but I'm not getting this. What I found in that thread regarding acrylic tanks is combining a 3000.25 and 3000.26 kit to basically attach 2 long rails to each other at a 90 degree angle. It still clamps to the lip of the acrylic perimeter, then the rail runs underneath the lip, turns 90 degrees to the second rail to which the Stream is hooked onto. Is this correct? I don't see anything about drilling holes.

You referenced in there photobarry having a good design, but I could not find that anywhere (search is not bringing up anything).
Thanks for your quick responses.

Mike

Hi Roger,

I don't want to hijack Mikes thread, so once you help him out can you tell me if you would recommend the same setup for a 2 ft shorter version of Mike's tank (72x30x30) setup and might you have some insight into;

a) when the 6120's will be available (any update on the release date)? this is probably too much flow for a 6ft tank though (all sps though)?

b) I checked MD and CL and both have been out of stock of the 6110 kit for quite a while, do you anticipate this changing in the near future?

6110 is no longer made. It is now TS12- same deal just in two seperate boxes. I would recommend TS24 for your aquarium. I was told that MD was caught up and while they may not have stock you would be at the top of the list. Same for Premium and Champion will be close to caught up by the end of the week.

I would PM photobarry as the pic no longer appears in the thread. The clamp can mount either vertically or horizontally as delivered without any accessories.
I will see if I can find an illustration.

Everyone,

Two additional ideas that people gave me. Take a look at my diagram again at the top of this thread.

Idea #1: Mount the 2 6100's on the center overflow pointing towards opposite front corners of the tank. Apparantly the cut outs for the overflow are just the right size for your plastic screws and the overflow itself is angled perfectly at 45 degrees.

Idea #2: Mount them in the holes that I currently have drilled for the Sea Swirls. In the diagram, those are the two holes on the same side as the overflow, drilled 25" in from either side. I was thinking to point the pumps to criss cross each other here and then alternate them on and off.

Idea #3: Drill new holes on the sides, right where the "16" is on the left of the diagram and in the same spot on the right side.

Any opinions on which would be best?

Thanks,
Mike

I personally would go with the overflow boxes- simple and sounds like a good solution.
