370G Tank Preview

Nick,

I'm using a Sequence Dart for the return pump. I hope the 30' run of 2" PVC to the tank won't be too much for it. I can always upgrade to a Barracuda or Hammerhead later.

I'm also have an Algaefree Tigershark magnet (suitable for 1" thick acrylic).

Ack..Nick, I just remembered that I had to upgrade from the Tiger magnet to the Great White to support 1".

Here are the two pics from the RE website that inspired me. The first is the tank installation:

Hey Greg,
Is there a model like the one in the front middle. I like the way it doesn't narrow at the top and there is kinda of a shelf. Thanks.
Paul

Sorry for the thread hijacking Art, is there a better thread to talked about this?

Art, take more pics of that rock in your tank. i want to see what it looks like in the tank. What size is the one you got?

I should be able to start aquascaping in next few weeks, I'll be sure to take pics of the process. I bought the three larges sizes - I believe the tallest is 24", the next size is about 20" and the smallest is about 18".

Kimoyo, I wish I could have gotten a tower like the one in the center of that pic as well - it's awesome. It doesn't look very stable though, I wonder how it's supported....

Made a bit more progress this weekend. Greg and Jeff came over and installed the bottom shelf for the stand. It looks so nice and clean now:

Unfortunately I didn't have all the right sched 80 parts to finish up the drains and closed loop (with Seq Dart and OM), but I was able to complete one drain, the exhaust vent (the big white pipe), and the return plumbing (more on that later). Here's a pic with my 17month old who thinks it's a wonderful bench:

Here's a crappy shot of the Tunze Wavebox and Tunze Stream 6200's in their cubby holes. Under the Wavebox you can barely make out the 4" screen I used to protect the closed loop intake:

And lastly, here's a pic of the return plumbing. I added a 3-way ball valve (the thing witht the yellow handle) to redirect the return flow to the 3/4" tubing manifold you see above the valve. This tubes on this manifold go to the bottom of each overflow and Tunze compartment. As often as I can remember, I'll redirect the flow in order to blow out the detritus. It may be more trouble than it was worth, but I figured if I'd give it a try. I'm hoping this cluttered mess is offset by the ease of maintanence:

I really like the shape of your tank. The two sided yet different viewing is cool and will make it look like two seperate tanks in two different rooms

I just had to tag along with this thread. That is a very interesting set up you have. That must have took lots of planning.

Reefboy,
Beautiful setup indeed.
With all the thought and planning that you've put into this setup, I feel dumb saying this.... but If I may make ONE suggestion..... I noticed that you used clear tubing on your return plumbing. Being that it's right under your lighting, this will get clogged with algae over time.
What I'd suggest, is either using black tubing, or wrapping your clear tubing with black electical tape.

Thanks for all the nice comments all.

Mike,

I actually have green, red, blue and yellow electrical tape for this just so that it will look pretty. Thanks for the suggestion, but I saw that Steve Weast did this for his clear tubing and thought it was a great idea.

Art,

Looks like a great setup. I had a question/concern about your 3 way valve and manifold. It appears you used pipe clamps to hold the tubing on. Are you using Stainless 316 or are those clamps only temporary? Just curious, because trace amounts of salt will corrode standard pipe clamps rapidly.

You have a great setup, I hope mine is as clean when I am all done.
