Hi all,

Well, after 7 months of planning and prepping I've finally moved the tank onto the stand. Still dry, but it's one step closer.

Many thanks to Greg65, geketell, aznDragonx and ManderinDude for helping with the initial setup and tank move.

Here's a pic of the hero of the day - indurstrial strength suction cups that I borrowed for the move. These made the move extremely easy and saved smashed finger:

Here's a pic of the team preparing for the lift:

Of course I'm manning the camera. How about those suction cups!!!:

Once in the house we put the tank on a dolly so we could navigate the maze without damaging anything.

Finally, the tank is in place (after sitting in my driveway for 3 months):

Some were concerned about the point source load on the cermanic tile using the adjustable feet on the legs for leveling. We decided to use 1/8" thick angle irons that span the 2 front and 2 back feet. The angle irons were then screwed into the floor. Here's a shot of one of the feet:

Those suction cups are freaking awesome!! Man I wish I had some of those, lol.

BTW, have you fired up your ROIII's yet. I got mine recently and started them and found out that the top of these things get really really hot. Are you worried at all about that wood up there being in direct contact with the pendants.?

So where's the info on this Greg?

Those cups hold about 600lbs each! Cost about $600, too. The only way to fly if you move glass all day:)

I've had a couple mounted to wood (like the pic) for over a year now.

I used high heat paint as my final coat.

Thanks all,

Paul - I'm not to worried about the wood as I do have heat resistant paint and there is a slight air gap. I've done this in the past with no problems. With that said, I will also keep a close eye on it and be sure to test it for a day before the setup is complete.

Skippyreef - What foam are you refering to?

Oops, forgot to mention. Omega reefs website is http://www.omegareef.com/.

They're doing the cabinetry, which is now pretty close at hand. I can't wait to go to the wood store to pick out the material for this. It should be a blast.

I should have my tank from James in late August, since he is busy and all

what type of foam did you put under your tank?

Does he recomend putting foam under his tanks?

what thickness?

thanks!

Nick

Nick,

I put a sheet of 1" styrofoam insulation from Home Depot. I really think in my case that it's not needed because Greg used a thick 1.5" sheet of MDF for the the top that is completely smooth - so no pressure points. But it's there as insurance.

I'm sure you'll be extremely happy with your tank from James. He did an excellent job on mine. You can see his craftsmanship on all the little details, the seamless joints, the beveled top corners and the polished edges. It's a work of art.

Now to just get the cabinetry in - that's the part that will definitely complete the artwork.

Greg,

What's the status of the price and size information?

Thanks.

Yeah I asked about this yesterday and I just emailed Greg. I couldn't find a number on his website or else I would call him because I'm hoping to get my tank up this weekend.

BTW Greg, the way you have your catalogs windowed on the bottom of the Omega Reef site makes it kinda hard to see everything, for me at least. It would be cool if you could see all the products at once to compare.

i forget the answer and i dont wanna go back and search, is the back going to be viewable? or is there gonna be some kind of wall back there?

gjk,

It is viewable from the back. It'll be flush with the pillars in the back so will have an inwall/picture window look.

Here's a pic, as you can see I still don't have the guts to pull the protective cover all the way off:
