I just run my closed loop on reefcrest setting now. When my problem first started they had me speak with an engineer and he said that during their development and testing stages of the pump, they never tested them in a closed or cabinet like environment. They were only tested in a completely open air environment. I wonder if it would help if you put a 6" clip on fan in the stand and pointed at the pumps.

Got a bunch of fish in there, all doing well. Only had some (4) small green chromis fish loss which I think was attributed to the use of bio pellets which also cost me a small clown tang. Have some Angels and tangs in there all doing well. Still stocking tank.

Skimmer working well, still on the light bio side.

Just got the Neptune automatic feeder, dos and water sensors. Programming all that today.

Will be looking to dose MG and maybe vinegar or RedSea nopox for nitrates. Still need to read a little more into the nopox vs vinegar. Don't need to dose alk or calcium since I don't have any corals, I suspect if coralline algae ever grows it will start consuming it but for now my all stays around 8.3, ph pretty steady only Mg is around 1140, would like to see 1220.

Ran it all day yesterday at 90% and no issues. Going to run it for a few days for consistency purposes and see what comes out of it.

I just changed mine to constant speed at 90%. see what happens.

It's obviously a limitation with these pumps.
It's extremely disappointing given the cost. I still can't get over how hot the outer casing gets. Extremely poor heat dissipation.

Now, it's only been running at 90% since 9am, but after a few hours this will show as high as 136. This is a snapshot of now, 10:06am EST.

that's interesting because mine at 100% constant never went higher than 100. I dropped down to 80% and still got a temp warning 10 mins later.....back to reefcrest I go.

Yeah, that's just it. There doesn't seem to be a consistency with these pumps which is a bit scary to me from a longevity and output aspect.

Been running at 95% yesterday and today, no alerts...now, at 95% the outer casing, temp taken in same spot, is measuring 126 degrees.

If I go to 100%, temperature on the outer casing reaches 136-137 degrees.

Obviously there is a design/limitation flaw somewhere, an extra 5% at this point should not add an additional external casing temperature of 10-11 degrees.

New pump came in but there is no firmware change or anything else from what I understand, so I'm going to call them and email them tomorrow about this. I don't feel like taking crap apart knowing very well that if nothing has changed the same thing will happen.

So I have a 275G tote sitting outside which I'm going to end up throwing out, because unfortunately with the amount of heat here in S Florida by the time I'm ready to put that water in the tank the temperature in that water has reached 82 degrees, while my tank is at 79, so not happening.

Instead, went with 2 Home Depot Dewalt heavy duty 63 gallon toolboxes, which went not in use stack up pretty nice and I can keep all my water changing and sand bed cleaning gear in there, plus water else I want really.

This is how I do either my 10% or 20% water change, depending on the need, which today is too early to tell as stocking is still extremely low.

I have to see if I can get to the bottom of why my ph is so low when my alk is at 11.5 and I'm sucking outside air through a co2 scrubber as well as good surface agitation.

No ammonia.
No nitrites.

I'm wondering if copper (cupramine) or PrazyPro plays into it. I think PrazyPro does given they say to ensure there is good aeration in the water. Done with PrazyPro, 20% wc and turned carbon back on, I hope this ph raises in the coming weeks. Not trying to chase it as it remains constant between 7.88 and 7.89 but I would like to see anything above 8.

I don't really understand why you are so worried about pH, especially if you're not doing a full blown reef. And even so, I've had an sps reef for 3+ years without a pH probe and everything has done very well.

So have about 30 or so fish in there now. All is good but there seems to be some remnants of either ich or viral infection thanks to that one sick fish. Going to monitor it, may treat with cupramine as they were doing well while being treated. Problem is rock sucks it up rather quick and end up with some die off which causes a small ammonia rise and ph drop. Ph is ok but ammonia is a concern. They're all eating like pigs. Using 2 cubes (variety) soaked in garlic and selcon, tetra pellets and nori algae - they go nuts for the nori more so than cubes.
