3g JBJ Picotope

PAR38 has arrived! This thing is too cool! I went out and found a cheap lamp to use with it. It may not work long term but at least I have something to try it out with. Here are a few photos:

How does the tunze omolator work for you? I have a Picotope and the Tunze osmolator also and like to set it up but I was concerned that the Tunze will overflow the tank if it turns on the pump for too long.

That's what the back up float switch is for. You put it at the maximum height you would ever want the water to get to and if the water reaches that height it shuts the pump off.

Houston, we are go for saltwater! Tapwater has been removed and I'm mixing up 4g of saltwater at the moment. I'll give it a few hours to mix and then I'm going to fill the tank with saltwater, sand and live rock. More pictures later...

Ok... putting the shrimp in there was a mistake. Despite the fact that I used water, sand and live rock from my Solana. Lesson learned.

Just tested the water in the pico:

Nitrates - 0
pH - 8.2
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Salinity - 1.026 SG

I sure don't know what could have killed the shrimp so fast...

sorry to hear dude :(, but i kind of had a feeling that might happen. i have moved 2 tanks for people and used everything from an existing system and have lost shrimp both times. fish are one thing, but inverts are whole other.

i dont want to lecture or be like some of the a-holes on the forum but small tanks, 10 and under, are Touchy! things can change fast! changing water can shock things (temp, Salinity, chemical balance), water temp rises and lowers faster, chemical shock or shock from initial addition of carbon or phosphate remover can happen much easier. i ran a 5 gallon for 2 years and its a learning curve by far. things can be going so good and change overnight, just like any other tank,..... but im done lecturing.

on a side note the tanks looking good! just slow down
