40 breeder build thread. It's centered around my clownfish!

well the pendant for the 175 was too large for my hood so I'm going with my 250w low profile Reef Star. It's pretty bright.

Testing it out. It lights up my whole living room

I am going to move my rock on the left a little toward the center. I can't get my magfloat in between the rock and glass.

Sump running w/my cheato in!

So now it's kind of a waiting game.

I really like the scape on the left. I must say I have really enjoyed this thread a lot. I can't wait until the kids decide to have kids. Good luck and keep it up with the updates! :-)

Thanks a lot! This is my first tank with a sump and only my 2nd tank. It's been a fun ride :) I can't wait until I can put my clowns in.

I do think I'll give them a few tankmates. Thinking a tail spot blenny. Maybe a candy cane pistol and yellow rose goby or a yasha goby. Fish that stay small and won't "threaten" the clowns. Last thing I want to do is put in fish that will intimidate them from breeding.

Oh, and when you start breeding/raising fry do you mind giving me some pointers? I'm looking to pair up my domino with a naked and breed them.

I will start a thread when they breed and I try to raise them. One of the best things to get is Clownfishes by Joyce Wilkerson. She outlines everything extremely well!

Thanks for the heads up. My lfs carries some books and I'm headed there later so I'll serif they have it. Happy reefing!

haha my cheato is pearling!!

Did a homemade fish food brew with the local club yesterday. Got home and fed the clowns...they just about were jumping out of the water after we started feeding it! They loved it. fyi, they are still in their 10g holding tank :)

Vey nice build. Great job so far.
What kind of anemone are you planning on keeping?

Bonnie was already hosting a bta when I acquired her. I will try a RBTA when their new tank is more mature...maybe next spring or summer sometime. We will see. I've had heard of some trouble with Pukani leaching phosphates for quite some time. If that's the case then it will be longer.

They are so freaking cute! Care to share what is in said food? :-D

oh my goodness...what's in the food?! Lets see if I can remember:

frozen clams
freeze dried cylopeeze
frozen reef plankton
formula 1 flakes to soak up extra juices
frozen squid
frozen pe mysis
frozen sand eels
frozen krill
1 bottle of garlic
1 bottle of selcon

that's all I can remember...although I think that's most of it. Oh and it smelled like puke!

Oh yea...hehe if you see that netting clipped on to the clown tank...well I needed that sheet of egg crate to make a stand for the skimmer on their 40b. I wasn't going to take any chances of them jumping out w/out a cover and I don't need netting the size for a 10g long term so I just unrolled part of my screening and clipped it on draping the excess behind the tank. Then I just set the left over egg crate on top of the tank just because. Clyde usually sleeps along the surface of the water and I hear him splash from time to time also. So, that's what that mess is up top :o

here's the video of my tang going nuts over it...since you seemed to like the clown video. Took the video's to post my local forum, but thought I'd share here too :) fyi, this is just her holding tank. Have a 150g to set up and put her in. I have a stand with an empty 75g, I just need to clean it out and get the stand leveled. Then make up the water. It's a seio 1100 in their right now.

Very nice purple! I've enjoyed this thread so much. Do you have one for the 150turtle or 75you build or are those projects for when this tank is done?

Korrine,
The reason why I asked was the rocks you have in your tank might not be good for anemones to attach their foot to. Don't get me wrong here. I think your aquascape is awesome and it's something I would do as well. But the rocks are very "spiny and sharp" and not smooth. Might be okay for BTA but I still think anemones need some flatter and solid rock to attach to. This might help to keep the anemone in one place. Anemones are picky where its foot is. A solid smooth surface can provide security to the anemones.
I personally would put those rocks in the sump for filtering. It's great filtering because it's so porous and water can pass through it.

Sorry not a turtle tank. Will be a fowlr. Fish I would like are:

Red Coris Wrasse
Radiant wrasse
Pyramid butterfly - maybe a trio
Regal Angel
Scribbled Angel- haven't searched the compatibility on the angels yet, though.

Will be awhile before I whole stock list in. Haven't started a build thread yet. Have to scrub my stand off yet and brace the floor since it will be on the main level of the house.

Thank you. I will look it over. One of my local guys came over and thought that right side would be good. He has 4-5 bta's at home. I'll read some of Karen's pages too. I'd really like it to stay on the right!!!

Very nice list. Sorry, I realize it won't be a turtle tank. I'm posting from my phone and my auto correct feels the need to insert words that have nothing to do with what I'm talking about...

Sorry. Didn't address the 75g. It will strictly be a QT/hospital tank. As will my 29g that the tang is in right now. I want to try to make the 150g ich free and everything will be QT'd and all fish will be treated with Crypto Pro and prazi before entering the DT. I will even QT snails. All it takes is one drop of water with 1 critter in it to infect the whole tank.
