40 breeder build thread. It's centered around my clownfish!

Very cool, I have a question for you, since I would like to try and do a DIY stand and canopy. Do you happen to have the plans on how you built your stand and canopy? Thanks

That's why it pays to know people in all businesses. My buddy's dad is a plumber AND a carpenter. I can't wait to build the stand for my 56 column.

well...I have my Vortech's back but I can't find my spacers. :headwallblue: I didn't send them with when I sent the package out and I can't, for the life of me, remember where I set them in my house!!! I remember holding them in my hand and setting them somewhere. Just can't remember/picture where that somewhere is! I ordered some today and they should be here the beginning of next week. You can :debi: me ...lol

Yea. Glued my own baffles...hehe. Was my first time doing that so that's why they aren't exactly straight, but I made sure to glue them VERY well :)

Here are some sump shots for ya so you don't have to page back to see. Rather primitive.

glued the egg crate on to hold cheato back

Did you use a glass holes kit? I ask because I am going to be drilling my 56 here soon and I am going to use a 45 for the sump. It will be my first and I have no idea where to begin...

I did except that I bought this tank already drilled so I didn't have to drill. The first tank I drilled was tempered and it blew up. Was a 29g. Found out later that you can use 2 polarized lenses to tell if it's tempered or not.

here is the link of thread where I blew it up with tips on finding out if glass is tempered or not. I just re-added the pics at the bottom of the thread for you.

Did chems

ph 8 (actually above 7.8...it's never above that!)
alk 8
calc 420
mag 1100

I added some 2 part along with a mag supplement I bought. I'll recheck tomorrow and see what needs topped off. I'm getting some coralline growth spots all over my freakin rock...grr. I'd rather have the nice brown color of established rocks than coralline every where.

That might be cool to watch, just not first handed like that. Helps if you know the maker too, that way you can look it up or ask them.

yea. I had that 29g for 8 years!!! Helping to move the 29g aquarium stuff is how I got my man to my place. Now he's my hubby :D

There is a youtube video of someone blowing up a tank on purpose to show what it sounds like/does.

Looks great Korrine, good luck with the clowns. My sump is setup almost exactly like yours (except mine is a 40br) and I also run the Eheim compact+. It's a great little pump and I haven't had any issues with it in over a year of running. A few months in I noticed the flow was greatly reduced (even on full power). So I took it apart and noticed the foam filter was very clogged with detritus/food etc. I cleaned it and it helped but it was clogged again in a few weeks. I ended up just removing it completely and it has worked great ever since. You might want to do the same to avoid the pain of cleaning it every few weeks. I've read a few other threads where people have removed the foam filter from Eheim pumps without any problems.

Just did my first major coralline scraping. It was growing all along the lower back of the tank already! With several spots in the front. Now my tank is a bit cloudy from stirring up the sand

I'm glad my top is decently easy to take off. I bought one of those long handled scrapers to scrape w/out getting my hands in the water and once I have corals growing up and off the top rocks I won't be able to get to the back glass through the door on the tank...well I could, but I'd break the corals off! I'll just take off the top and scrape that way

I have some CUC coming too!

Ordered amphipods and copepods as well as 10 tiny nassarius vibex snails and 5 turbo snails. They will be divided between the 12g and 40g. Also 3 of the smaller serpent stars. 2 for the 40 and 1 for the 12g.

That's wierd that LED's won't grow it! I want to put Radion lights on this tank eventually...maybe sooner than later then! I prefer the nice dark brown established rock look than the purpley pink. I think the colorful corals pop more, which is also why my background is black.

Got some pics of Clyde playing in the nem. Bonnie let him now! Woke up Saturday morning to find both clowns sleeping in the same nem!!! Before that she would NOT let him in. Couldn't decide which ones to upload so here are all of them for ya!

Bonnie fat and happy after supper!

peek a boo! I have a feeling if they do lay eggs, it will probably be back there where he's peeking out from. That would suck cause I couldn't watch the development.

haha Thanks :) I love football!

Here are the chems from this week if anyone is interested :)

phosphate 0 with Hannah Checker
Calc 400
Nitrate 0
Alk 9
Mag 1140

I added a lot of mag and 3 capfuls of alk and calc from the two part
icon_e_smile.gif
(Using the Two Little Fishes C balance. Then I bought a liquid mag supplement for as needed.)

The one nem moved over on the right side. I'll post a pic once it's more open. The lights just came on a bit ago.

The nem went to the outside on the right on the 13th. There was a hole in the rock so it didn't have to move really. Just stretched out that way.
