40 Breeder FTS Thread

Thought my tank was looking pretty good today so figured I would bump the thread with a updated FTS. Starting to come together but still have some spots to fill in :)

Good looking 40R, that's right I called it a 40R because to me it's a reef tank not a breeder.. Keep it up it looks great.

a bump with a little update on mine :D

Kv, That is one good looking 40reef tank. How long has it been running.

Thanks Goingsalt. It's been up for about 3 weeks after the cycle was completed. I cycled it first for a month and when the cycle was over, I transfered everthing from my established 24 gallon. No spikes whatsoever.

Beautiful tanks all around.

Can't wait to get my 40b wet. The stand is built, the sump baffles are in. Just waiting for the GH overflow and return kit to arrive.

I'll be moving livestock and rock over from my BC29. I'm going to start with new sand though. Anyone have a recommendation on how much sand? I have a pistol shrimp and goby, so I want to have enough depth for their tunnels.

I used about 40 lbs of caribsea live sand. I originally bought 2 bags but saw that 1 was enough. The sand bed is about 2-3 inches deep depending on the spot. My yellow watchman has dug all kinds of tunnels. I can't find my pistol shrimp however.

very nice everyone, i have a question. I am planning to upgrade the powerhead to a vortech MP10. will that work alone for a 40B with mix reef (mostly sps and lps)? or should i go with a MP40? thanks.

What about going with 2 MP10's? I think that would give you more options and a better overall flow patern with fewer dead spots.

^+1 and if you're willing to pony up the $ for a 40 then go with the 2 x MP10's. That way if one goes down you still have one to move water.

Here is my new 40b SPS BB. Its shares a 55g sump with my 75. I will getting some BRS Pukani rock for the tank.
