40 Breeder FTS Thread

That is how the reproduce when happy as well, that is the crux. But he said that they are splitting like crazy, which isn't really what they should be doing. Theoretically it will get really really large before splitting. Ive seen BTA's that were 12" across in the disc and weren't splitting, so for smaller ones then that to split I would imagine there was some mitigating factor, like maybe they haven't gotten enough food to grow larger in that spot so they split as they are able to support themselves easier as two smaller specimens than as one larger one.

Of course without a lot more information about the specific tank this is all speculative, but I wanted to throw that out there for any newbies who are reading and don't know much about nems.

Here is a picture of my old 40b. It just started really taking off when I had to break it down.

That is/was a stunning tank! why did you have to take it down?

Thanks. I was finishing school and was leaving town for several months. Plus I knew I was going to be really busy over the next couple of years and wouldn't have time to keep it up. I tried to stay away but had to set another tank up this year. It's still new but coming along nicely.

Need some help here. I am changing my lights back to T5's. I have been contimplating between a 4 and 6 bulb unit. I have a mixed reef with about 30%-40% SPS and a Crocea Clam at the bottom. Id be willing to get rid of the clam as I don't like it that much. I have some nice Monti Caps and some basic easy to keep SPS. No huge light demanding corals.

What should I do? Ive read that people have a lot of success with 4 bulb fixtures sence 40g BR are shallow. Im more so worried about PAR levels at the bottom of the tank and how the bulb combination looks since I have a 250w MH over it now and it kinda washes the colors out.

Awesome tanks everyone. I cleaned mine yesterday so today Ill take some pictures. What do you guys use as supplements?

I have a 4 bulb t5 and sps seem to do fine in my tank.

Same here. Good color, good PE. I just replaced 2 of my 4 bulbs and had to turn the light cycle down. I was surprised changing only 2 bulbs would require that.

What bulb combo are you using? I just replaced all four of my bulbs last week with two blue plus, an aquablue, and a purple plus.

Running almost the same combo except I have a UVL Superactinic in place of the Purple+. How do you like that bulb?

Is it just me or are the the new blue+ are considerably brighter?

I am considering adding some LED strips in the future to supplement. Not so much for PAR but hopefully to add a little shimmer.

Yeah the blue plus do seem a little brighter. So far I like the purple plus, it brings out a lot of the purple especially on my rocks and everything.
