400W XM 20K Shots FTS please.

Yes they do get alot of light, My zoa's and lps arent liking it too much, But the next bulbs will be back to 20k, and i'll add 2 50/50 vho's.

Thanks guys.

Every hour that passes the bulbs are looking better and better. Cant wait to see what they look like after 100 hours!!!

Blue pigmentation is much more noticeable now. My blue slimer looks like a highlighter now. :D

SunnyX,

Doesn’t Sanjay’s plot show that the XM will be more blue than the Radium?
Not sure what the numbers on the left vertical side of the chart mean. Can you assist?

Also I was told you must run a Radium on a HQI ballast and not it is not recommened for a m59 ballast. This came directly from both PFO and Hamilton.

Thanks

Yes the XM20K will be more blue than the Radium on the M59.

Most people do run Radiums on HQI, overdrives the bulb and makes it whiter looking.

I have 3 VHO's, 2 Super Actinic and 1 Actinic White. The White bulb help to balance out the blue.

As soon as the lights come on I will take some Full tank shots for you guys.

Sunny are you using the M59? My buddy who uses the XM 20k uses the M59 and he claims it is quite a bit better than the E-ballast.

If you do use the M59, your lighting sounds like it will be very similar to his, and his colors ROCK. The difference in your pictures is already pretty amazing.

Yes I am using the M59's.

I chose them because they put out more PAR than the E- Ballasts's.

Not a great shot but here is one, stll having problems adjusting the camera:

gotta know....
1. heat difference
2. brightness difference

... i just remembered you went from 250's to 400's, so try to imagine if they were 250's also, if you can

....i ran ReefLux 12K's before i switched to xm 10k's (2-250W & 1-400W) and the xm's are 2x-3x brighter

I haven't really noticed much heat difference. The lights are in an open top so heat has never been an issue for me.

The lights are very bright, to my eyes they appear brighter than my old 250W. So far I love the color. Like I said before the bulbs are looking better day by day.

I hope to have problems like yours someday.:p

Anyway what are you thinking for a photo period since the PAR is in the same neighbor as your old 10K 250W?

Photoperiod is stil the same as before:

10:00AM-11:30PM VHO
1:00PM-9:00PM First MH
2:30PM-11:00PM Second MH

8:30AM-2:00AM Moonlights
11:00PM-8:00AM Refugium Lighting

could just be the pic...but I think your colors look more washed out with the 20k. make the colors pop more, but more washed out
