With the air hoses for the skimmer drawing air from the outside, are you concerned about contamination? Do you spray pesticides, insect sprays, or fertilizers around the house? Is there some type of filter on the end of the hose to filter out any contaminates? Just curious.

Pure organic for my lawn so it shouldn't be an issue but you have me thinking. Maybe I will put a carbon filter out there now. I promise to post an update either tonight or tomorrow. Foxface went in the main tank last night and I have a Regal coming on Weds from the marine center. Wish me luck.

Awesome that your lawn is pure organic, but my big concern would be mosquito spraying. Do they spray your neighborhood for mosquitos? They do that down here once every few weeks and I definitely wouldn't want that stuff in my tank. The carbon filter should take care of it.

Keith,
I love the RO/DI top off that you did with PVC. Please forgive me if I missed the details, but where did you get the float switches, and what kind are they??

Thanks for sharing you ideas and hard work.

Geoff

To answer the couple questions. No they don't spray here but I'm still going to do the carbon filter though.

I got the float switches from autotopoff.com. Good people.

Ok so a relatively big update. Today I got 2 major deliveries. One was a whole box of tonga corals (more to follow) and the second was a regal angel from the marine center.

First the fish. I can't say enough about The Marine Center. Service was outstanding, packing was best I've ever seen. It came in a huge bag with almost 3 gallons of water! The specimen is beautiful also here are some pics.

The qtank he's going into. it's an oceanic 30 hex which makes an absolutly awesome qtank. I have used it for 3 years now.

Here the fish is as he was drip acclimating. The surface was moving so the pic is bad.

Once he was in there a couple hours I gave him a mussell to munch on which he did willingly!

Wish me luck with this guy. They are reall tough but my how beautiful!

Onto the corals. I ordered a whole box from Tonga. I was very impressed to say the least you'll see why. I put them mostly along the bottom of the tank to give them a few days to acclimate then I'll reposition.

I'll let the pictures talk from here on out!

Here is the goodie box. All 70 lbs of it!

There are a couple more nice ones but the shots were horrible so tht's all the new coral shots.

Here are the mandatory full tank shots

The tank is really rockin along. Pods are everywhere. The frags I put in 6 weeks ago are rockin, the fish are doing well and corralline is starting to grow in a big way on the starboard. Here are some random shots.

Great tank and thread. I know this is really not something any of us really think about when it comes to our "Boxes of water that suck in money", but I know what my elec bill is every month and I think I would have a heart attack seeing what it takes to power something of that size. Sorry if I made anyone cringe thinking of this subject.

:D

it all depends on where you are. I am in Washinton and run 1000W MH lamps but use only one main return pump, fans for cooling, and Vortechs for flow. My electric bill only went up by about $75/month which is really not too bad for a 1,200g system.

Nice one Keith. How many QT tanks do you have for your stonies?

I know that you have that ?40 gallon? that is filled with Interceptor. Are you isolating each colony separately? That is a logistical nightmare with light and other aspects.

Lookin good.

I have 2 20G that I use. I dont worry about light since I just do a 7 hour qt for corals. Just a powerhead in there. I just do a water change from the main tank and use that for the water. Interceptor at about 20x recommended anf flatworm exit at about 5X.

Reefwaters these guys are wild.

I've actually been pleasantly suprised. I run 5 250's but I run Iwaki's and Tunze's which are pretty darn efficient so mine is less than $100 incremental.

Keith,

you have probably already gone over this, but would you explain your QT process for corals? I would like to know how you do it so I could use the same method. Thanks!
