480gl elos braceless earthquake trap

Looks great! The water clarity looks wonderful and the corals are really starting to kick in now. Thanks for sharing!

tylorarm,

What are your opinions on your light fixture with the 48" width. Do you feel your getting enough coverage? You had mentioned that your fixture was set high off the tank, but how high?

By the way, everything looks amazing!

Spinny, The light fixture seems to cover the width of the tank fairly well. However, at this time i don't have any corals near the front nor back sides. Keeping the lights a little higher than normal i get more coverage, and being 400w still seems to have enough intensity for the bottom of the tank.

tylorarm,

Thanks for the response. I will be setting up a 48" wide system, and at this time not sure which way to go for full coverage. With only an 8' ceiling height in the room and a 32" tall tank, I can run out of room above the tank fairly easily. Thanks again!

Good time for an update, as i'm doing some big changes soon and accidents happen. Coral and anem doing great, fish doing really well, something has to give. I'm putting in an apex controller and redoing my stand, seems safe enough but we'll see. I'm a very poor photographer with a good camera but don't know how to use it, but here's a few pics:

One of the changes i need to make is to the aquarium back. No point being clear anymore since i moved the aquarium against the wall. Not enough contrast, particularly when you're trying to take pictures. I think i'll experiment around with black, blue and maybe some sort of back lit background. Some on RC had a very cool blue that was led lit from behind and added a lot of depth.

Open to suggestions on the last point. I have just enough room to get a roller in behind the tank so could paint the glass, or put in some sort of removable backing (probably experiment first before i paint anything.

Oh my, i just saw Oldude's twilight reef tank shot, boy I've got a long ways to go. But of course that's what makes this so fun.

Thanks James, i might just give the lightbox a try. It would be fun to do something a little different.

Awesome update Tylor. Your tank is really coming along nicely. How long have you had the joc? Any plans to pair it up?
