50 Cube SPS Zeo Reef

Nice! It's tiny :D
So very tiny, I'm not expecting him to be on prepared foods for at least three weeks but I'm hoping that I can get some rotifers or lobster eggs into him before then. His snout is just sooo tiny!

First dibs when you frag him!!!
Congrats on the finest copper band I've seen.
Haha sure thing, I'll have to let my frag grow out first :)
I am just over the moon with the quality of him and just how strong he's doing given he was in a big tank with some big fish! No one in mine even gave him a second look and he's cruising around the tank already :)
(ps. I heard you called, I may have left my phone at a mate's place lol I'll give you a buzz back on Sunday when I'm free and have it back, if that's cool? :) )

If only you can frag fish..
If only haha he's too cute to be fragging though and it would be a very tiny piece haha

One of my favorites Dom, and that is a beauty, I am assuming an aussie? They are finicky, but if you get them to eat, they are so cool with personality, great score man!

I'm so excited to finally have one! I've wanted a butterfly for such a long time! :D
Yep, he's a hand caught Aussie :fish1: I'm hoping that due to his age and size that by the time his mouth is large enough to be able to eat prepared foods he's so used to the others eating that he just picks it up straight away :)

That copperband is awesome Dom! Cute little guy I wish you luck!
Thanks Tim :) I'm stoked with him!

Beatiful fish Dom!! And great aptasias eater :inlove:
Thanks João, I'm lucky not having any aptasia but he does love picking at the rocks :)

Damn.. Even your pics of a dumb fish in a bag are good.
How do you do that?
hahahaha you don't know what his intelligence is like! :lolspin:
I have no idea, the halide really helped and so did taking 30-40 shots. That and he didn't have much room to swim away from the camera, not that it even bothered him lol

I've never seen a CBB that small before...

That's awesome. Hopefully it does well in your tank.
Me neither! I'm really hoping to have lots of success with him! I'll continue feeding lots to hopefully make sure he gets the idea lol

Wow Dom, close call with the salinity spike! I'm lucky to have family who have also been into reefkeeping so I can fully trust them to help me out when needed.

Beautiful CBB as well, I wish you the best of luck getting it on prepared foods.

Yeah, definitely a close call but I was lucky to be able to nip it in the bug before any real damage was done :) No one in my family is reefing or even fish savvy :( lol I have to rely on "the stick thingy's are good" and "the fish look like fish". Infuriating sometimes :hammer:

Thanks Josh, I'm hoping over time the battle can be won! I'm definitely excited about the challenge ahead :)

Well, there might not be any new tank updates/pics for a while. I've really lost a lot of heart with the tank due to the take over and complete inability to control the caulerpa nummularia (great for pod growth though) and because I only see it once or twice a week for a water change and if I'm needed back at home. Mix that in with a concoction of personal issues, final year study and a really sick little cat, I'm fairly over a lot of things. The tank will keep going and maybe tomorrow with the public holiday I might get some desperately needed work done on the tank but it's not looking great at the moment. I luckily haven't lost anything and some things are still looking okay but I can barely face the tank at the moment.

As for me, I'll still be around and enjoying everyone else's amazing tanks as this guilty pleasure keeps me sane but it might be a while before any serious pictures are taken, I might take a shitty phone pic to show the mess I'm dealing with lol.

I hope everyone else is well though :) Times can be tough, I know first hand!

Hey Dom.. It's no damn fun when personal issues intersect with tank issues.. Sorry to hear. When the sh*t piles up, it can be a daunting task to 'shovel' it all..
You have a fantastic tank and clearly a solidly wet thumb.. I sincerely wish you the best at working it all out!
The tank's gotta give you pleasure.. If it doesn't, it asn't worth it.... but if it does....
Good luck Dom!
Have you ever tried a sea hare for the culerpa? I have no idea if they even eat culerpa but I have seen sea hares do some pretty miraculous work in problem algae tanks..

I hope you sort out your issues and get back your mojo as soon as possible.

Best wishes

Bulent
Me too Bulent, me too! Thanks for the kind comment though :)

It's not a great mix and there's definitely a lot of shoveling that needs to be done, baby steps though and it's a much easier task to mount lol
That means a lot coming from you Matt :) thank you for the wonderful compliment! I really want to get my thumbs wet and things going again, I just need to find a solid few hours to do so!
That's too true, once it goes from an enjoyable hobby to a chore, questions need asking. That being said I do love my tank and adore all of the animals in my care and won't be giving up easily, it just might take some time :)

Supposedly there's a specific species of rabbitfish that love the stuff but I'm not 100% on the species and I don't particularly want to add one to the tank either, too big and boisterous.

Sorry to hear Dom but I hope we see more of you and the tank in the future.
Thanks Mark :) I'll still be floating around and enjoying everyone's wonderful tanks, just lacking in getting my own sh*t sorted. One day at a time and we'll get there :) I'm forever an unbeatable optimist but even then things can weigh down the sunny side of life lol

Hello mate. Sorry about the tank troubles. I think if you can carry out weekly pruning right before a water change to manage the algae will be the best option short term (or even twice monthly if its not too bad). At some point I think you just need to do a tank restart or even upgrade.

Dom,
I am very sorry to hear about these troubles man! This hobby can be heart wrenching at times, put that and personal problems into the mix, and it can be overwhelming. As many have already said, hang in there, you will most certainly pull through all your recent issues tank or not related. Sometimes tank issues can lead to re-found joys, perhaps it may inspire a restart? I wish you all the best regardless mate! I have always appreciated the kindness you share with all of us sps junkies :)
Cheers

That's unfortunate Dom but it's OK to step away, we will miss seeing your tank updates and your beautiful acros but sometimes you need to take a break. Reefs are very demanding, they want your time and your money and only reward you when things are going well. If you have to, I say break the tank down and work on planning a future upgrade.

Hang in there!
