50 Cube SPS Zeo Reef

Jeez Dom! You could have warned us better about the visual assault we would be getting! Holey smokes! The wife and I were lusting after all the red corals especially....
haha thanks Matt  even I'm still getting used to such a pretty little piece! It's directly under the Radium too so it's soaking it up!!

Aaaaaaaaaaaah.... :)
Havin' a smoke, now........
Just awesome!!
:lolspin::lolspin:

That purple one with the orange eyes and the little red wonder are just plain stupid nice!!
I'll be dreaming about those two..
They really are and you can thank Andrew for finding those and bringing out things that no one else could have possibly managed!!
I have to dream about them too not seeing the tank :( lol

Wow Dom, and that red one ... that red one!
Seems to be a popular piece lol it's a nice complimentary red to the firetruck which is pretty groovy having the two!

I second that..second that.
Thanks Bulent

Sick Dom, Just Sick!!!
Beautiful photos, post 653 #4, what the heck is that called, now that is another one of those unique aussie corals you guys are lucky to get :) Nicely done Dom:)
No idea but I've seen it sold by two stores, one was fireworks and the other was titan fire I think?
Darth Acro decided Dragon's Breath though lol Thanks Perry :)

I saw that coral offered from BSA Corals, but its not currently available.
I saw it somewhere else too but didn't pay attention to the store lol

I was going through a few old pics of things and I have to say that some things have had a great deal of change! Like the firetruck, this was what it looked like in it's prime before I restarted the tank under leds:

Which was pretty damn cool but no where near the same level of intense red that it is now, even if it's a little unhappy in this pic. Which is a give away from the lack of any green pigment and a bit of unhappiness on some edges lol:

When I restarted the tank I managed to slice most of the nail of my index finger off about 3/4 of the way through moving everyone across which meant my beautiful t. maxima was left to suffer in the tub for an extra two weeks or so and it not only nearly killed me seeing her in such conditions but she did not fair so well. After a two hour acclimatisation to the tank and lots (LOTS) of water shot everywhere she finally landed back into her old spot in the tank and a proper environment. Next time she get's moved a little sooner lol. It was also the first go I'd had at cutting the byssal threads to remove her from her old rock for a new one in the tank! Here she is, looking a bit sickly just after moving:

To her now, back to the absolute beauty that I fell in love with three years ago!! And the reason she gets a quarter of the floor space of the tank haha

Now for a bit of an explanation why I'm persisting so hard with this stubborn bastard!

This lovely little cherub has been a pain for a while now as the best colour that I could achieve was a measly fraction of the state it came in and I will continue to persist because I want to bring it back into the colour it should be! Basically this was the best I could get, bleachy-blue looking dips and a super dark almost black looking brown everywhere else lol largely because growth has been fairly non-existent in my tank over the last however many months but it's coming back again finally!!

Let's see if you can spot what it came in like...

This. This stunning thing is the reason why I'm going to continue pouring effort into this piece because I want this colour back lol

I have to say that over the three or four years (I forget when I first started lol) I've had one of the most awesome experiences in keeping a reef tank and it's really going to be something that I keep with me forever! Whether that's continuing with tanks the size I have or needing to go right down to a pico, I think there will always be a place for a tank no matter where I am or what I'm doing. And of these years the last year and in particular the last 4-5 months have been some of the biggest learning curves I've had and the most success with the tank I've had. There's been a lot of up and down but I like to think I've come a long way in the last year!

Here's the tank just after restarting (led's then too), oh how clean and simple it looked!:

To this a couple of weeks ago, while I still have a few issues that need some sorting, I'm pretty happy with where I am now as a reefer and how my tank is going!

All you guys have been a huge inspiration to me and I've learnt HEAPS from reading all the threads here and from the input you've all had as well. So thank you to everyone!!

So beautiful. Thanks for sharing Dom, you've been a inspiration to many of us too. Keep it up and I hope your move goes well!

Looking great Dom, my little Firetruck button frag is alive and well and is just starting to encrust i think

Thanks Josh, that means a lot to me :) As long as we keep inspiring each other the insanity can be reasoned with :lolspin:

Thanks Andrew! I'm also really glad to hear that it's going strong :D It's the least I could offer back given all the help you've given me over the last year!!

Tis a pleasure to help out Dom, since you insist on giving me something for the 65gal how about the entire Firetruck colony............... once you have the 65gal humming i promise (no chance in hell) to give it back.............

I let the potassium drop to 320 when tested today after almost four weeks of no K dosing to prove a point. As you can see it's super important to pinks and reds..........

How is your overall nuisance algae looking now btw, is it still thriving as much as it was a few weeks back - any red cyano alive anywhere..............

haha I can offer you another small frag? :lolspin: hopefully I can find something else cool to share with you though! I'll at least try and convince you of something else ;)

Some of those pinks seem fine but the tierra seems to have lost all it's pink! What are you going to bring it back to?

Going alright, still getting some growth but skimmer output is getting strong everyday (and smellier lol) so at least we're getting signs all the **** is starting to come out of the water!! Continuing to kill it though and it doesn't seem to be growing as fast as it was but still a while to go to get it gone!

That isn't from my TDF colony Dom, that's a frag from Spslvr which is a different color variant. When you see it in person you'll forget all about the TDF.........;)

Oh that little one is turning into something pretty nice ;) lol I'd say your pinks look pretty damn fine then given the colours that you have clearly incidentally included in the pic :lolspin:

Dom, Excellent work with your 50 gallon. It's really come along nicely.
I have to admit, I winced and cringed when I read about you slicing your fingernail off. Fingers and hands are one of those places where minor injuries hurt like the dickens and you cant help but accidentally smash the injured area every 5 minutes or so....Glad you've healed up afterwards.

Andrew....always learning something from you.....sadly, you're not sharing how to make this hobby less expensive for those of us who dont live anywhere near an ocean....sigh.

So looks like I'll be paying attention to my potassium levels as well as everything else.

Thanks mate
I can definitely tell you that I don't plan on ever doing it again! I still get a bit nervy chopping bacon at work :lolspin:

Sneaky Dom, very sneaky... I too have been holding back on some beauts, some of them from your native land my friend :) That's ok, you have a great leader, he will always trump our efforts, lol....trump....no pun intended :)

Here's a slightly better and newer shot of the above :)

I've lovingly named this one the Acro Sunrise lol

And I have to say I'm pretty happy with the chalice growth and health under the regime :)

New FTS too:
