I may have missed it, and congrats on your venture! I have my 2 cents to put in. First, because there is no LFS within 35 miles it may be mildly profitable to have your shipping/packaging array in a warehouse or large store in town, as you could double a small section of this as a LFS. But more importantly I might recommend starting some cultures now! I personally do not breed, but from what I have read, cultures are the backbone of the breeding industry. You may want to ask around, to try to find as many species of pods, rotifers, zoo plankton, and phyto to start cultures in. This is especially true if you are planning on trying animals that have yet to be bred. Also, most importantly GOOD LUCK! KEEP US POSTED!!!!!!

They are still in the store... I gotta get em out this weekend which should be interesting, especially with the 9 inches of snow we are expecing tomorrow. :sad2:

Sorry to be tri-posting, but those two systems, what would they be used for?, Growout? Larval? OR would you put brood stock in those, (small fish mind) like citron gobies, other types of clown gobies, gobies in general? Also, where in kansas are you. Im about 70 or so miles west from Denver, CO. I know a few LFS's that would be very interested.
I live in coffeyville. And yes i know that 9 inches isn't much but it's on top of an ice storm we had earlier and the roads already have hard frozen ruts in them. Loading will be fine. Wal-Mart has a forlkift they can do it with, but trailering it home might be a bit nerve racking, ya know having the trailer bouncing around with an already top heavy load. I am thinking i will use them for grow out. They will not be two systems when I am done. I am going to tie them together. I know I will probably have several people protest against this, BUT in my defense one side has a great heater that can easily handle 3-4 times that water volume and the other side has a chiller.

Hey Josh, that is a sweet deal to be sure One thing to check out though, and I only thought of it when you mentioned the chiller. That system (MARS?) was specifically made for freshwater application, the chillers are typically only in the goldfish systems. I'd go over the whole thing a fine toothed comb making sure it is SW compatible.
My budy bought something similar from a PetCo that closed, the main pump was an Iwaki 100, that alone was worth the $100 he paid :lol:

The reason I posted about living near Denver, was that if sales are an issue, I can help with that by visiting the LFS in the Denver area. Have you acquired your brood stock yet? Hey heres an idea for you, it may be a challenge, but it may make you more in the long run. If you have an anemone in the grow out tanks, the ones where the clown babies will go, they instinctively host, when they are at a young age, you could in theory charge just slightly higher prices for the tank bred clowns that host like a wild caught specimen.

Thus far I have not aquired my brood stock. I will probably start looking within the next month or so. Until then I have quite a bit of equpment to build and a porcupine puffer that currently resides in one of the brood stock tanks that desperately needs a home.

I've used those systems. The only difference between the SW and FW systems is the number of biowheels and the size of the pump. They are decent systems and very simple, however, they can stand some tweaking
I find the in tank flow rates are rather slow, and the particulate filtration not overly good. My inclination would be to drill out larger drain holes and increase the circulation rates, along with installing a cartridge filter and a good inline UV unit

sounds like you have gotten alot of good advice I would just die to have a killer shop like that if your into building cabinets you could build fishtank stands and canopies and make some income also sounds like you got a plan with the building i am jeolous though I want a shop with living quarters
The weather lined out... I got it home just to find out ithey would not fit in my garage. Go figure. So I took them and put them in a storage unit.
I'd really like to get 'em up and going to make sure everything is in working order, but I guess I will have to wait a while for that. As far as being heavy, I really don't know. I loaded them with a forklift and unloaded them with a bobcat with fork attachments. They look heavy, but I am not going to try to move them by hand to find out.

Well all things being equil...I got fired last week (insert curse words). And I am still not sure why. Nobody wants to give me a reason. So things are on hold for the moment. Till I get things lined out... Probably a week or two. However in the mean time I am gonna start building some shelving and a few other gizmos while I have the spare time. I have an idea(kinda) for large rotofier and phyto productoin. I saw a commercial container and it looks like i can reproduce it pretty easy. I will see if i can find the link so you all can get an idea of what i am talking about.
(oh yeah.... to top it all off, my lion fish jumped the other night. And I found him the hard way yesterday morning when i stepped on him. OMG That is an experience I don't ever want to have again. BTW he was dead when I found him.)
