The tank was fixed today. They (Will and Ron) stopped in on the way back from Houston to replace the front panel. Here are some pics.

Here comes the glass....

Soooo, Sanjay, did PGS supply the reflectors for free? They should of, then they could sell them as 'the reflectors that Dr. Sanjay Joshi uses on his own reef aquarium, and he's a lighting guru and independent tester'. Seems to me that every product you use should be free due to the advertising you are doing for whatever product you chose, esp lighting.

Congratulations on the award Sanjay. Well deserved!

Pretty impressive how quickly they can actually build or fix a tank, which begs the question of why is it that ALL manufacturers take months to do something it takes them a few hours to complete:rolleyes:

Well, I am glad the tank is on its way to completion. You'll have some water in it soon enough, and then the real thing will begin. I hope you didn't go broke with the hardware and saved enough moolah for the livestock. Some of us forget that comes after the hardware assembly:lol:

Well, our process takes more than a few days to build each tank. We put a lot of care into each and every tank we build. Glass cutting and polishing is on a 2 week back log. Our facility can accommodate 8 tanks a month. (we are looking to move to a larger building.) We are on an 8-10 week back log. You do the math.

Also the silicone has to dry for a period of time before we ship it. Don't want glass to move or slide. :D :D

I hope I didn't sound rude. Just throwing out an explanation of why we have the back log we do. :D

Congrats Sanjay! Well deserved. Thank you for your Patience. You made our trip well worth the time when you took us to see the PSU tank.

I'll be back to visit when you have your tank full and running.

As the rock cures, I have been thinking about the aquascaping quite a bit.

A lot of the rock broke in shipping into smaller peices and I was looking into ways of salvaging the rock. I decided to try and see if I could "glue" smaller pieces to make larger peices that would be more suitable for aquascaping.

Using THORITE a rapid setting cement I "assembled the rocks". Here is what it looks like.

Here is a peice I made yesterday.. its holding really well and has given me a nice flat shelf rock to make some nice overhangs with.

Been taggin along... great setup. Congrats on the award.

What is Thorite? How long does it take to set up? And finally, how well does it adhere to "wet" live rock?

Thanks for sharing your efforts.

Is THORITE available at HD and lowes? Is there any ph increase in the water when using this material in a tank?

I could not find it at Lowes. I called the headquarters and they gave me the name of a store in town that could get it for me. There are 2 types that I have used. This time I used the general purpose Thorite since that was the only one available in stock without having to wait for a special order. It seems to work just as well as the other one that I had used several years ago - Thorite Rapid Overhead.

Like all cement it is alkaline and will have a high ph, but it does not seem to have a large ph raising effect since you are not using large quantities of it. In the past I have drained a tank, used thorite to assemble the rocks, and added back the fish/coral the same day and things were fine. Usually I do this while the rock is curing or before curing, so the small increase in ph does not affect anything.

I am going to use this to help build the pillars and other formations.. will post pictures as I make progress.
