5017 - Broken?

Hi -

I've been using and ENJOYING my Osmolator 5017. I came home to find my top off container empty. No big deal - I find it empty every 4 days. :) So i made some water, dropped the pump back in and nothing. :( I'm wondering did the pump go? The lights still seem to work - the light is yellow like it wants to pump, but the pump isn't moving any water. The pump does not making any noise. Is there any way to verify that the pump is bad? I live in WI, USA. Should the switch be in the 9 or 12 position?

TIA

The usual cause would be the pump or the wiring, there is no easy test but you can try touching the pump to the tip of the transformer output and see if it runs. This is not absolute, it could still have too much resistance and run when connected directly but not in normal use. How old is the set.

The pumps last 18-24 months usually so it is probably time for a new pump, MD and premium stock them and they run about $19.

Thanks.
So I exceded th average - woohoo! I tried your suggestion - I put the wires from the pump directly to the power supply, removing the controler from the equation. The pump did nothing, no spinning and no noise. I tried reversing the wires, still nothing.
I'll try a new pump.

Thanks for your time - I'll let you know how it turns out.

The polarity doesn't affect the pump so it must be dead, a new one should solve the problem.

Hi Roger -
I finally ordered and received my new pump. I'm happy to report that the new pump works. However, it doesn't seem to pump as much water as my previous one. The stream isn't as thick. Any ideas?

My power suppy has a switch on it, a 9 and 12 setting. Can you tell me what the proper setting is?

It could be there is air in the pump or the hose has some minor kinks or build up of lime if it was used with the calcium dispenser. I wouldn't worry about it. The pump lasts longer at 9V but pumps more with 12V.
