540 build thread

Well I've hooked up my existing 300 to the same sump as the 540. Two 1" drains to 7" filter socks and one 1" return using a jebao DCS-12000 at half throttle. No carnage yet...

Being able to use existing wall penetrations made life a lot easier!

Just for a little show off, here is my 300 that's now plumbed into the same system as the 540

Haven't quite figured out the blue filter thing when only the 4 kessils are on in the evening [emoji1]

Looking really nice.

As for the blue, you could use a yellow filter on the lense to help with lighting. Than from Tidal Gardens posted a video of cameras and taking pictures in a saltwater environment.

That nem is HUGE!! You now have close to 1000g or maybe more
Yes, indeed it is! I've tried for years, unsuccessfully, to keep magnifica. Once I connected the two systems, it actually opened up a lot more. Yeah I figured total system is between 900-1000 gals. It's actually a bit intimidating!!

Working on the newest addition.. a waterfall type algal turf scrubber. I'll light it on both sides with horticulture par38 leds. It is a bit uneven and I'll fix that before it goes in the sump. [emoji1]

nice. if the scrubber works out it will be easy to upgrade it. U can easily T off the too bar and add a few more sheets. You could also use some plastic carabiners to make taking them off and in easier. looks like its gonna work awesome.

Thanks! Yeah I tried to make it so I could just Daisy chain another one to it if needed. Thanks for the suggestion for the carabiners, will have to look into that!

Amazing Jeff, so you took down your peninsula tank? Didn't you have a Gigas Clam the size of a small child in your old system?

Thanks! I still have the peninsula tank. It's plumbed into the same sump that the 540 is on. I was going to take down the 300 but my wife actually wanted me to keep it, but I didn't want to maintain two big separate systems. So... one big system it is!

Sadly I don't have the gigas anymore. It lived about 10 years but I think it just outgrew the ability of my system to sustain it. It got to almost 30" and would consume almost 2dkh per day of carbonates. I actually considered just getting out when I lost it.

A little more progress.. got the second EB8 hooked into my Apex system. Had to custom order a 25' aqua bus cable but it seems to working okay. When the lights and pumps are on, it's pulling aboit 6.5 amps, plus the 4 amps the 300 pulls. At least they are on separate circuits
