540 in wall from Sunrise FL......

Incredible build! Really nice and clean set up. It is obvious that you spent some time aquiring the rock. You have some really nice pieces there and a great scape. Keep up the great work. Will be following allong to see it all come together!

TKS ...appreciate that....it took over a year on most of the rock, the plates came with the DT...... I originally helped a friend pick up in the keys and then I ended up buying from him....

Things are coming along nicely....everything is cycled and looking good on all fronts....it only took a week and a half with just a little spike of ammonia from me putting in some raw shrimp......planning on waiting at least another 3 weeks until I start the transfer of all my fish in my current setup.....

Saw the tank yesterday, this thing is a monster and I can only image how it's going to be once everything is up and running!

Nice work Matt.

You have some of my favorites in the tank. How is the emperor fish with your corals?

Tks he doesn't bother things at all.....the one that bothers things is the blue face but not much just keeps things in check and doesn't allow over growth lol

Not to be a stick in the mud but why did you decide to paint the back and sides of your tank? The reason I ask is that i'm concerned about how you will maintain the tank. I didn't see a front panel in the wall above the tank which means you have to do it from the rear. From experience, 5 years to be exact, I have a tank built into the wall and if you do not have a removable back or sides that you can see through your life is going to be miserable when trying to clean or maintain the tank. I hope you have thought this through and I just missed something in reviewing the thread. Good Luck with everything and again, I apologize for the negative thought.

No that's not negative question at all and does present a good question that I did take into account. I built the stand larger than the 36 width of the DT ....It has a ledge on the back that I can stand on and walk along. When Im standing on it, it's like the DT was sitting on the ground. I can reach the front bottom with my hands if I needed too. Now the next question would be cleaning .....I used silicone to secure 1/8 black acrylic to the back and sides on top of the paint so I wouldn't scratch the paint off and have to repaint it all the time and this would allow me to use my magnet for cleaning on all 4 sides.

I just have to sub to this build. Have you decided on the framing on the viewing wall side? Also, are you going to hook up any controllers to the system?

I have subscribed. Just a few questions. What controllers, if any, are you going to put on the system? What type of framing options have you chose for the viewing side? Also, are you going to make it accessible, the lights/equipment, from the viewing side?

TKS....yes I decided to have it framed and wood work done by a local company ...I could have done it myself but wanted to use the time in other areas and Im better with acrylic than wood anyway and since I wanted top of the line woodworking from a master crafts man he started on it yesterday....

yes I have the reefkeeper elite 6 pc 4s and with all most every module they offer running on my other system and will move it over to start with..... I have been looking at other options just to research them ....I am very satisfied with the job the reefkeeper has done for me up until this point so we will see if its something that needs to be addressed for any reasons,.... but for the time being it will do fine Im sure

frame going to look like this and yes access from the front also

he said it should be done this weekend or beginning of next week....I went to pick out the new paint colors for the wall tonight so I could get it painted before its installed...still undecided on the color combos though.....

I came across this over it the in wall setup threads and liked how it looked.....the framing will be similar except Im thinking of taking the small shelf in the front of it and having it made out of granite instead of wood ....also on top mine will go all the way to the ceiling......

well tonight the guy I hired to do the frame work came to install it......here is a pic from the backside of them installing it......

<a href="http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/mrx66699/540%20Build/?action=view&current=IMAG1260.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/mrx66699/540%20Build/IMAG1260.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

it started out perfect and ended up like this........had to close up the 96in x 24in hole with some plastic....

<a href="http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/mrx66699/540%20Build/?action=view&current=IMAG1263.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/mrx66699/540%20Build/IMAG1263.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

it was off by 2 inches on one side to my liking and had to be completely removed and remade ......now in defense of the builder what I did see was off the charts and I cant wait for it to be redone and re installed .......he said he could have it redone and ready to re install in 48 hours ......

This is a nice set up. Great way to utilize the side wall. (I know this is another reefer's tank; just admiring his/her concept.)

almost there.......finally after a few tweaks the finish work on the framework is almost completed.....

the wall on the left half of the tank in front of it in some of the pics ..is the back wall of one of the living rooms and will be removed and open up that room even larger allowing the setup to be viewed completely from that room

Subscribed, this is an amazing setup. What are you planning for internal flow, or will it all be managed by your returns? (I apologize if I missed it earlier in the thread)
