I got a 75 and I am much happier. Keep your eyes open. same length and hieght, the 6" of beach make a huge difference.

If I were going to scape a 55 again though, I would do high arches that were diagonal, rather than trying to line up everything along the back.

Heard that. It was even harder aquascaping a 55 as peninsula tank. I have to be careful cleaning the glass and go very slow.

I would love an extra 6".

Settle down- I meant in the tank. Geez.

As you said there is no room to get a nice structure. I had to ended up making a frame out of acrylic rods. I then drilled holes in the rock and slid the rock where I wanted them. Made a HUGE difference and I couldn't have been happier. The tank even looked bigger lol.

I wouldnt necessarily say there is zero aquascaping you can do in a 55g. You definitely cant do as much as you could with some deeper dimension tanks, and you have to be a little more creative. There are some interesting things you can do though...it really depends a lot on the shapes of the LR and how it fits together. Good luck!

This is my 55. If you find the right pieces or break them you can make plenty of structures.

I am just setting up a 55 and YES aquascaping a 55 is a challenge. The biggest of which is to have enough LR for corals and filtration, and at the same time leaving enough open sandbed for corals that need to be placed on bottom of tank. I like to islands, one on each side and leave the center open. If you find some "shelf rock" it makes it a little easier also. Here's mine, not the best by no means but I like it.

This looks nice, but you'll have trouble cleaning the side glasses later on. Trust me, it's not worth it. your side glass will be very very dirty and it's impossible to clean. Give yourself at lease 5" to clean the glass all around. have you seen tanks that aren't accessible via magnets? the coralline build up is nasty.

This is a REALLY old pic of mine, and I've modified the rock a bit since then but it's essentially still three mounds. I'll try to take some updates when I'm home for the summer.

Hey, I just upgraded my 33g to a 65g and I think that it is possible to aquascape in a 65g, compared to a 33g!!! and I'm happy with the result!
I need to show pics tonigh....

Nices those pics!
ok, here is my 62g 36X20X20 peninsula. I quick opened the MH for pics so result is bad. Don't look at corals, they are just thrown there at the moment.

Here's a pic of my 55g when I first changed the scape.

And your right 55g's are a pain to aquascape, hardly any depth.

I have rescaped my 55 about 10 times in th 2 1/2 years I've had it. Mostly because of the battle with hair algae that I can't seem to win. I'll pull all the rock scrub it, rinse, the scape for 2-3 days till I'm as happy as I can be for the time being. I always seem to end up with a long wall/ island formation. The first layout I had was Similar to nemo4life's but that's where my hair algae battle started. At the time I didn't know any better and let detritus build up between the rock and glass and with no way to clean it I had a massive algae break out. So I then had my rock as a wall leaning on the back glass, but wasn't happy with it. Fish and corals were but things would get trapped behind rocks. Now I have a similar wall. But with many openings througout and it's free standing so no rock to glass. I just wish it was drilled. Powereheads take up so much room in such a small tank as a reef
