55 gallon tank

Hello. I am planning to get a 55 gallon tank. This is my first saltwater tank. I'm going to cycle the tank with a couple clownfish and damsels. What would be some medium size fish to go in there. It's going to be a community tank.

Welcome to forum and hobby. Do some more reasearch. While your tank sboukd be some what stable/cycled before adding fish, call it first fish in tank. Clowns shoukd be fine as long at they are not large/agressive breed. Damsels might not be best to add as most will call them agressive. Green chromis seem to do better. Medium fish.....well a dwarf angel would be a nice fish. Maybe anthias. Check what other do, read stickies. Maybe tbink about qt process.

You're much better off being patient and waiting till your tank fully cycles before adding livestock. A few breeds (damsels) CAN survive the process, but at what cost? It will be a toxic inviroment which will stress your fish and lower their health and lifespan, which in turn will leave them highly vulnerable to desease and parasites... That's not a very good foot to start off on and it would cause a cascade of negative events that you'll be dealing with for a long time... You're much better off waiting a few weeks and going slow with it. Think of it as a way to protect your investment. Just my two cents as I've learned from experience and basically flushed $4k down the drain... Needless to say, I am MUCH more patient this go-around and is paying off big time

Whoa! You don't put fish into your tank UNTIL it is cycled. Set up your tank with rock and sand and 80 degree saltwater at 1.024, maintain the water level, and feed the tank (not fish) a few flakes of fishfood daily until the ammonia test gives you a reading. Then see if the tank makes the ammonia disappear. THAT is the cycle.
You are quite far from ready to start: getting the RIGHT equipment involves knowing what you want to keep, and knowing what you want to keep in a 55 involves asking what will stay small enough (some species we keep reach a foot long in a year or so) to live there. Only ONE damsel of the smallest sort per 50 gallons. Clowns are an exception to that. You need a vision of what your tank will be, you need the right lights for what you want to keep, and you probably need a sump, overflow, skimmer, and you WILL need a qt tank and autotopoff.
