57 starphire rimless sps dominated build of a century!

@Ek9vboi - How do you like your trigger sys sump? I ordered the basic 30 inch crystal, did you get a ruby?

The way it's set up is good but if they could have some how had the refugium in the front it would have been great. I've always admired the refugium as it is like a 2nd tank, a place to put fish that are not doing well or even an extra frag tank. But the location of where it's at now makes sense as you would probably prefer the return section where you can see it.

@coopj - Hey we have the same size tank and alot of the same equipment. Do you mind posting a fts and maybe sump shot so I can see what you have done with yours?

No real updates. I went to lowes and got my plywood and foam boards. I also got a 3 led light system that I am going to put on the bottom of the plywood for maintenance lighting. I don't run my fug light 24 hours so even though all the panels will come off the stand, I love having my sump completely light when I need to work / look at things.

All my items have shipped. Just waiting for brs, rappidled and my sump orders to get here.

How much did the powder coat end up running you? I've contemplated setting up a 40g breeder, and a metal stand would match the room much better than wood. Thanks!

Looks good so far .
I have almost the same setup . LOL ..My tank has the black silicone .
I prefer Tunze's since I cannot handle the noise of the Vortech's . Never tried the 40's but the 10's whine like crazy ..
I still have not gotten around to skinning my stand ..

Cost 100 dollars.

I got the stand today and it looks great. I love it. I cut 2 holes in the plywood and foam for the bulkheads and put the tank on the stand.

Tomorrow I will be getting all my orders. My huge BRS order, the sump, and the other half of my rapidled order. This weekend I should be doing the plumbing and hopefully get some water in the tank. Stay tuned!!

The work lights I installed underneath the tank are amazing. They give me so much light to see and work I love them.
I also installed the dual brs reactor and the bm dosing pumps.

Nothing special with the plumbing... I have my reactor fed by my return pump so I dont have to use a maxijet those things are too noisy.

I started filling with water last night but had to leave for saint patties day drinkfest. So I have the ro di water running right now shouldn't be long before its full.

I did read this as well. However, I could not find a logical reason not to. I did read however that using foam under trimmed tanks could cause a load issue on the stand, I am not worried about a load issue on my stand for it is overbuilt quite a bit.

If someone can give a reason other then your not suppose to I might take it off.

57's get tight for real estate down low. if you decide to add a kalk reactor, or an ATO rez...u might consider puting an extra mini stand behind the tank to hold these items....unless u got the room to go to the side.
good luck on your build!!

Thanks man! It is tight down there I will give you that. Its a rather large sump for only a 57 but well worth it IMO. I probably wont be using a kalk reactor anytime soon. However, there is a local acrylic guy everyone here is socal goes to and he has built some amazing ato rez out of all black acrylic, very nice looking. I am going to have him build me one. You can see a picture of one here http://www.socalireefs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27208&highlight=advanced+acrylics

my thinking is, once the tank is filled and rocks are placed in. the tank and the foam will set around the rim, causing the center foam to push up against the bottom piece of glass. Don't know what it would do long term, but having any pressure on the bottom glass would make me feel uneasy.
