6-Line Wrasse Issue

Just got through fragging what was left of once a really nice ORA Birdsnest. I was doing fine until recently. It had not completely grown over the plug but was close. The plug was sitting loosely in a large hole in a rock.

I started noticing that the coral was being slightly spun around but I wrote that off to current. Then I saw the flesh on a tip or two start to "receed". After that it went downhill pretty fast and the coral was really being spun around. The flesh started disappearing from the tips and on other random areas with no particular pattern. However the base was never touched. Everything else seems ok so far.

I've noticed that my 6-line seems to show a lot of interest in this coral but haven't seen him picking at it. Has anyone had any experence with acro eating 6-lines? I think maybe he (or maybe something else) is eating them when the lights are out. Any ideas would be appreciated

i highly doubt the sixline would touch it. Maybe a snail spun it or current. Six lines if anything bully other fish not corals ime.

birdsnest will not encrust, it will just continue to branch out.
just frag a good branch and place it somewhere else.
I don't think the 6 line is eating the bn.

The 6 line is probably interested in something else. Check to see if you have red bugs or worms on your sps.

The coral should not be able to spin. You need to anchor this coral down. Sounds like you have some tissue necrosis going on and perhaps that is what is interesting the wrasse.

FWIW I have a melanarus wrasse who will flip frags on plugs out of holes in the rock trying to get to any pods etc hiding underneath. Flipping small objects looking for food seems to be normal behavior for my specimen at least. Since adding him everything has to be secured or it goes for a ride. Your moving frag story brought that to mind.

the six line does eat flat worms from what i have been told maybe it has found some pest and was picking at them or ate what was on it and looking for more?

Thanks everyone. I've moved what is left to another section of the tank. The recession seems to have stopped. Wish I had moved it earlier.
