600 Display (1100+ total system) Mixed Reef

You just got my dream tank. I am planning a tank with similiar dimensions but only 36 inches front to back. I love the idea of an 8 foot display. I will definitely be watching this thread. What are you planning for lights ?

Where in Columbus are you picking your tank up at ?? Who is building it ??

Picking it up at a friends house, he has a aquarium service company called Quantum Aquatics. I really am not sure if it's a Ostrom Mfg tank or Aquart but it's 72x32x28 ... I think ...

It has whatever the anti scratching coating on it, not sure what it's called but it's new & is only costing me $600 :)

Lighting is still be debated at this point, but will be either 3 400W Halides or 3 250W Halides with Luminarc(sp?) reflectors, still debating over T-5 or VHO supplementation.

I went with 4x 250s as I was thinking 3x 400w were too much for what I was looking for... I am also going with T5's... I will be running the IceCap 48" Retrofit: 8-54W T5 HO Fluorescents with 4x 11000K Aquablue and 4x Actinic/Blue Plus...

Sixxer - what skimmer do you plan to go with? The temp tank looks like it's sporting a big ASM, G6 maybe?

What about flow? What are your plans there?

BubbleKing maybe ?? LOL

No Bubblekings here yet!!!!!

At this point I am running one ASM G-6 and plan on adding another to the operation once the tank is up and running.

Sixxer - would you care to comment on the performance of the G6? I have a G3 on my 180 and was thinking about a G6 for the next tank (~500g area).

Thanks!
Ron

P.S. - how about flow?

96x48x30 has to be the perfect size in my opinion. 8 foot long for viewing pleasure, 4 foot deep for aquascape options and 2.5 foot high to get those stags growing high and giving fish plenty of free swimming room. I think I'll be wanting one in about 5-10 years but I'll need to build an extension to house it. :p

Meanwhile I'll be following along here. :D

Already guilty on that one. Don't think I have posted in your thread but have been watching and waiting. :)

Seems like a great project sixxer...

I'll tag along, even if you are a Bungals fan ;)

I love how the G-6 has performed so far. It has pulled out massive amounts of skimmate. I ran an ETSS1800 on an Iwaki100 before this and I would say the G-6 outperforms my old ETSS 10 to 1!!!!

Missed this part of your question.

Flow will be provided by two Sequence 5800 gph pumps from the sump. Additional flow will come from 1 or 2 Tunze Wavebox's and either Tunze Streams or possibly Seio 2600's.

That's the plan so far.

May also throw a few 1" Sea-swirls on the returns to help with making more turbulence.

Go with the Tunze's... 6100s and / or 6200s :)

I'm starting to think about my next move up. I currently have a 180 and I keep mostly softies and LPS. I'm running with my return pump directed in two direcitons (Mag 18) and a singe SEIO 1100. I was running two 1100s, but I found the flow to be too much. I know that sounds odd, being that the tank is a 180, but I found it made the parts around the powerheads unusabe for corals since the flow was so strong (and I'm not into SPS).

Anyhow, I'm thinking in my next tank (probably around 96x36x30) that I might try something like six SEIO 620s. I'm considering this for a few reasons. First, I'll get my flow directed from more than 2 or 3 directions (probably run one on each side and four on the back wall), second, the 620's are on the smaller side and third, the 620s are the most efficient SEIO pump - as efficient as a Tunze (77gph / watt).

Anyhow, that's my .02.

Ron
