I too was starting to wonder if you where still making progress.

It took much longer than I would have liked, but things are back on track. Going to make another trip up to Premium Aquatics in a week or so to pick up the rest of all my equipment and hope to have it up and running 100% by the end of this month.

Got to do a little more sanding tonight and then the first coat of primer is going on the walls. Also have all my electric updated as our home only has 150 amp service, having my electric box replaced and upgraded to 200 amp service. The tank itself will have four dedicated circuits.

WOW. I leave town for a few months and everyone goes crazy. How can I keep up with all these must read threads:D

Hey Hop,

Hope you held onto that system you had set-up!!!! I followed that thread for months, and saw that you might have sold it....

Well I had buyers regret for a while, coupled with sticker shock from the first electric bill:) But I hung in there and did some tweaking. Now it's quite manageable and I'm back to the addiction!

Thanks for asking:)

I'm really impressed with your set up so far. Can't wait to see it through. This is real close to what I want to build in two years when the wife and I upgrade homes:)

Wow, a house with 150 amps! I know the standard was 100 for a long time, then 200, my house has 400 amp service but that comes with having a home with 139 light bulbs!

The real issue around here is if we are actually getting th epower we are paying for. It has come to light that the power company routinely denies full power to various areas in order to deal with demand so sometimes people are getting much les than they think...

It must be sweet to be able to drive to Premium Aquatics! Can you sneak some pictures of their store?? I would love to see what that looks like...and I am really glad HOP stuck with it. It looked bad for a while but I understand what he went through.

Premium Aquatics is like Toys r us, except it's all Reef Stuff!!!!!! I wouldn't recommend taking a credit card!:D ;)

How will you access the tank with the top primeter covered by the permanent walls?

I left an opening on the opposite side that gives me access.

ssshhhhhh!! Your supposed to let him paint it first! :D Just kidding sixxer!

 Wouldn't that have been a major screw up!

Looks like you'll be needing one of those looong scrapers! :D I would get yourself a T-Shirt that says: "Got Nozzles?"

Is that water I see in there??? I hope so!

We will be trimming the tank with some molding to help hide the nozzles a little bit.

Primer is on!

Heres two shots of a 140 gallon refugium I'm setting up. It will be fed directly by one of the drains from the display tank.

I am going to get myself a nice magnet, anyone got suggestions for a good acrylic magnet cleaner????

I was testing out the return pumps over the last couple of days, so yes some water has made it's way into the tank:D

I hate to tell you this, but you are going to majorly regreat not having access to both long sides, and for that matter, all 3 sides really. I had an acrylic tank before that was 8'x3'x2'. The canopy was removable, but extremely heavy. It had doors on one side only, and I grew to hate that inmensely. At 4' wide, once you put stuff in the tank it will be nearly impossible to access anything past 3' from one side.

Do it now that you can and remove the entire top part above the tank. You can make 3 side panels t fit and hang from little Eye-loops with trim in fron of them so you don't see the lights coming through. It will allow you to remove and entire section easily and have much more access to the tank. Acrylic accumulates a ton of coralline very quickly and even in a fish only tank this would be a chore to care for.

OK, I am done with it for now. The rest of the progress is looking very good. :D :D

I like the algae free magnets. Get a tiger shark. They are extremely strong and will scrape just about anything except for coralline on acrylic. I had one in my previous tank and the coralline still needed to be scrapped off. In my current glass tank, it takes everything off including coralline.

^what he said!

Tank looks great but not being able to acess every side is a total PITA!! You do not weigh much but it's still difficult to lay on top of the tank while trying to reach the far corners to clean algau/etc or even move stuff around.

DEFINANTLY make all 3 sides with doors or removeable panels

I had a 180 (6 x 2 x 2) pennisula with access from only one side and found everything from cleaning to aquascaping to be a real pain with only1 side open.
Just make that hole side on hinges so it can be opened. Not really that hard . And you seem very handy.
But otherwise this tank is great.

THATS MY TANK!

THATS MY TANK!

I just found this thread and when I opened the last page I said..

THAT'S MY TANK!

Of course it's yours, but what you are building is so similar to what we're building next spring. :D

I'm going to have to go back and read the whole thing, and I'll be tagging along. Ours is going to be in a church/childcare but it's going to be a 600g peninsula. Thanks for posting this!
