I got him about 6 months ago. He was tiny juvenile. I just keep him well fed and so far he leaves the corals alone and also his fellow fish. We'll see what happens as he grows, but so far so good.

WOW...sure sounds like a lot of work ahead of you. I can't imagine how you are going to decide which fish to keep in the new tank. I'd have a hard time leaving any of them out. :)

Id agree with chuck. Any idea on what fish you are keeping in the 300? Id keep the Moorish Idol, the Duss, the PBT, the Achilles, and the Clown Trigger based on what I can see.

It seems like you like becket style skimmers. Do you have any experience with any of the needle wheel types? Personally Ive never used a becket style one, but every picture I have seen shows a huge head of nasty dark foam (before the cup). Ive never seen that with a needlewheel skimmer.

These Two large chunks out of the left side of the tank, what do you mean? Is the wood missing or just the epoxy? So you think it was a fish doing it.

I'm definately going to keep those fish you mentioned in the display. I'll also add the A. maculiceps, Z. rostratum, A. leucocheilus, A. blochii, A. nigricaudus, N. Vlamingii and the rest of the unicorns. It will still be a heavily stocked tank. The unicorns I have will need the larger tank. I'd like to remove a large coris wrasse, a striatis bristle tooth and yellow mask tang.

The beckett definatley produces a large amount of foam. The only downsides are that the becketts get jammed with debris quite often and they use alot of power to drive them. I to check the becketts daily. I dont have any experience with the needle wheels.

The chunks are about 5-6mm deep. Wood and Epoxy included. I've never seen a fish bite the area but the only other thing I can think of is perhaps a pinsized hole in the epoxy that has been undermining the epoxy over the last 3 years. The amazing thing is that the tank is still not leaking.

IT will be a tough decision. I have no doubts, against my best efforts, the 300 will end up heavily stocked when I'm done.

Cougarman,

You could also use a poly livestock tank and plumb this into the system for keeping the extra live rock that you will likely have. A 300 gallon one will basically allow you to have the same volume of water as the original plywood tank if you decide to keep it. Then you could keep some of the other fish that you would not be able to keep with just the 300 glass tank.

The top down only view is not a bad as one would originally think .. especially for the puffer and some of the so called uglier naso tangs - the ones that only a true tang lover could love ;)

Good luck with the transfer and I hope all goes well

You read my mind Carant. I'm going to a farming store in Grimsby tomorrow to see if they have any more stock tanks. I've been using two 100 gallon ones for my water change storage. I figure If I get a couple more, I can either use it on the system if I need them, or use them when I move in a couple years.

Sorry to hear about your 600, I hope you find a way to keep all your fish. If you decide to start up and plumb the 72g bowfront take some pics of it. I have one and would like to see how you do it.

I decided to drill the 72 bow today. I used a diamond drill bit 2.5 inches in diameter to make the hole large enough for a 1.5 inch bulkhead. I used a homemade jig to place the holes approximately 3 inches from the top corners. The bulkheads are Haywards, which IMO are the easiest to work with. Its not beautiful, but it will work.

Cougarman,

The TSC in Guelph carries the blue poly livestock tanks from Behlen County (currently in stock are the 8ftx3ftx2ft 300 gallon ones)

www.behlencountry.com/cattle/tanks/poly/

The blue is much nicer to look at compared to the black/grey of the rubbermaid ones (in my opinion)

Enjoy shopping.

Thanks Carant, I'll look into that. It may be too long to get down too my basement. I'd have to find a space for it too. I know the 6 x 2 x 2 will fit, but its only 150 gallons.

I finished the plumbing on the 72 bow today. All I need now is a couple more stock tanks, for live rock, and I'll be ready to breakdown the 600 gallon.

I ordered a new R/O unit a month ago, finally came this week. It's a GE Merlin rated for 720 gallons/day. Goodwin9 recommended it. Thanks Goodwin9.

It took me a while to track down the necessary pieces, but was suprisingly easy to install. I'm amazed how quickly this thing pumps out the water.
